I used to use just the basic roland drum sounds, like 808, 909, 707 etc. but now I combine those sounds with drum hits i've sliced from a breakbeat. Is that what other guys do?

Yeah layering drum machine hits with more organic hits from sampled loops is standard practice. Getting the balance right is the key.

I get the attack of a natural kickdrum and combine it with the end part of a really heavy kickdrum
that usually works for me

flog them from hiphop house or dubstep tunes
any tune i like i nick the drum hits and save them out for later. or steal whole percussion parts and chop them up making them unrecognisable, or get the midi from them and replace with my own sounds.

or reach for Vengence House sample cd's when you want heavy one shots.

Layering from reasons sound bank and some times a 808 kick for the boom!

Yes, breaks. Also drum machines, vinyl, a select few sample packs (like Goldbaby), synthesis, and layering. Layering is key IMO!

What good is that if you cannot assign each drum to its own channel?

There are so many packs out there with drums. Good quality 808 and 909 drums is all you need. From those you can create badboy custom hits.

Audio Outputs: Tattoo has a stereo buss and 10 mono outputs.
I'd use a sampler for that anyway.

Personally there is no better drums than 808/909 for me:p

With FX you can do anything with them imo. But whatever works right

Pretty much use it like synthesizer, but you can use seperate outputs from what I understand (10 total).. but they haven't released too much info yet. I agree about 808/909 (and 707), but different sources give different sounds so I like to experiment. Some of the best drums I have are those old drum machines sent through analogue desks and equipment.

waldorf attack or Utonic , synth my own.

outside the box, mbase 01, or i mic a kick drum with an ns-10 speaker, for the super low end but natural feel.

i steal old grannies off the street and throw them around in a room filled with junk, best way to get good sounds really

definitely layer shitloads of sounds for my snares.

Im really excited about the new Audio Damage drum machine. I've been missing Ultrabeat since I switched over to Abelton. Hope the env's are as snappy.
Usually I synthesize the majority of my drum sounds and then layer with sampled percusion. World music CD's are a treasure trove of drum sounds.

vengeance sound libraries are supposed to be really good. i havent used them but reading around KVR a lot of electronic producers rely on them because they are "club ready"

Various drum libraries. Not much of a layerer.

Have loved the 808/909, but I don't like those snares.
