we need to set up some kind of dubstep p2p, like bittorrent...

Yeah I had deaper.com with loads of sets but they had to be removed. The webhost said they were copyrighted and in the terms and conditions it said no MP3 files.
Anyways I'm looking for a different server to host everything.
BitTorrents are a good idea but I think they would die out unless someone could always be a seed.

there was a thread about torrents. check the
http://www.themixingbowl.org for some grime and dubstep torrents. seeds are a problem though - made worse by their port forwarding requirements which are different from most other sites.
it would be fun to share though. i've got 7 Gb of dubstep sets and 3 Gb of grime sitting on my HD.

i've been upping a lot of the Rinse sets to theMixingBowl over the last few months. I suggest we just use that site rather than starting our own if we want to do bit torrent.
I think it's a great site with a great community. The only thing is it's a torrent site that requires a login (just gotta give an email) and they require you keep at 1:1 share ratio (you upload as much as you download). And of course those that don't have a bit torrent client would need to set that up. I suggest one of the following clients:
BitTornado - a nice simple one but not good if you're going to be running a lot of torrents (10+).
Azureus - lots of nice features. this is what i use currently.
uTorrent - i've been thinking about switching to this because it's quite similar to Azureus but it uses very little RAM.
Anyway, I think us using BT to share things would work out great.

bruv, reason I posted is so I can provide audio. I'll up anything you want, computers always on downloading stuff and I think it's time to give back.
Ask away, ask for anything I'm more then happy to do it

hell yeah. the community involved wouldnt require much server space but its a hassle easily avoided. it would be great if we could get a subforum there or a dubstep category or something. anyway im up for it, my upload is not great now but will be by march.

well, they have a Dub/Broken-Beat section and a Garage/Grime section. I usually put everything up under Grime but put Dubstep in parenthesis in the title for the torrent. Some people there put Dubstep stuff in the Dub category though. Anyway, it wouldnt be too hard to find Dubstep there even though there isnt a category specifically for it. Maybe if more people upload Dubstep to the site, they will make it a new category for it. Currently, I'm one of the few people that upload Dubstep there. They just added several new categories just a little while back so the idea of them creating a new one for us isnt too far-fetched.

Only reason I wanted a server is so I could re-open deaper.com and have different categories and anyone can download from the server which would probably be quicker then torrents off each other.

you have to register before you can browse...its just basic torrent stuff. there is the possibility and even liklihood that files will eventually cease to be seeded, but there is still this forum and yousendit. i try to keep an extensive library and i imagine others such as yourself do as well.

Here's an extensive FAQ from the site:
http://www.themixingbowl.org/faq.php It should explain the basics. If you'd like more info on how Bit Torrent works in general then this should help:

Re: Port Fowarding at Mixing Bowl
I think I may have done something wrong the first time. I'll try ports in the range they suggest and if my client still works on my other sites I'll stick with it.
