Been meaning to start a thread on this for a while now but finished work early today so I thought I would.
Anyway there are a few non 140 bpm tunes floating around that are at the 100 bpm mark. They are seriously good, so far I've heard these:
Kromestar & Jay5 - ???:

Quest - Smooth Skin:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/689395430e4f0a3c/
Mala - ???:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/6893973247f2cc17/
The Quest one has been about for a while now but as far as I know Kromestar & jay5's track is fairly new. Haven't got a clue if the Mala one is new or not.
I heard on a anti social mix Quest saying something along the lines of "You people aint ready for the non 140 Deep Medi's coming". So could any of these be Medi releases? I can easily see Smooth skin becoming a Medi release which would be amazing. Also Wasn't Blackdown saying that Mala has 2 big surprises for 2010, so could one of them be a run on non 140 releases? maybe a sister label to Deep medi? What does everyone else think to these tunes? Anyone else heard of any differant ones? So many questions lol
I'm not to sure about the Mala one atm but maybe it's a grower however the other 2 are seriously nice

why the fuck that mala thing is the best thing i've heard in ages?!?!

darkness!
...but i don't understand why quest said "non-dubstep business". sounds like dubstep to me.

Yes! it's time to break the constraints! Don't get tied down by a tempo and prescribed musical ideas. PUSH IT FORWARD! sounds seriously fresh!
I know loefah is quite interested in things that move away from 140 but keep the same vibe.
Hopefully people won't come along and ruin this immediately!

I'm producing at 125 & 170 right now. 140 has become stale for me.

even though dem tunes are even "slower" than 100 and i think 170 becomes equal to 85 in a way, these tunes are wicked. vibez in deh!

Some tunes have that half time vibe, some have that 140bpm skank feel. That's it really.

The hi-hat/cymbal rhythm's tempo dictates tempo a lot of the time. If the hi hats are sparse and mostly hit under the kicks and snare
example here.... on Jakes 3kout
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtT_HWnd_zI .....it sounds more sludgy and 70 bpm, whilst if theres a lot of cymbal rhythm and hi hats, for example here...on F's "NIght Dive"...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbx3Zf4zkTw ......and stuff going on under the kicks and snares it pushes the tempo along, thus giving it more of a 140bpm feel. This is only ONE of many factors that divide the halfstep/140 bpms.
The easiest way to describe it is do you nod fast or slow to the tune when you listen?
Ruskos "Betamax" is an example of a tune that slips back and over between 70 and 140

Lovin the vibes on the Jay&Krome tune... they can do no wrong right about now. + name for that tune; 'City of God'
Not feeling the Mala one (thats right, i said it!) Bit annoying tbh. He's done better stuff

I reckon the Mala one probably started off at 140 but somewhere along the line he decided to drop down the bpm and this was the result, i think the bassline needs work, not really feeling the sound, other than that the tune is sick as fuck, looking forward to hearing more in a similar vein.

i heard some of these beats are 114bpm, now that's what i call 'decoupling' from 140!

THANK GOD
This is genius - now if they choose to they can completely dissociate themselves with the somewhat tarnished "dubstep" label whilst having a whole new mine of rhythmic ideas to draw from. Undiscovered territory which is ripe for experimentation

was gonna start a thread on this too, but shithouse there was me producing nuff 110-120 beats before i even heard dubstep. might have to revert back to that!
