moving there nxt year for uni, whats it like??

Tuesday club (regular union night) gets some decent acts, although its often a bit overpriced and crowded.
Bigger than Barry run a monthly night at DQ which get the odd dubstep act.
theres also the seldomly run 'Wee Bit Mean', only been one night this term, but they're planning more.

Me and a mate are also planning a dubstep/future garage/funky night next year in february/april, its still in its early stages but we've been emailing agents and stuff, should be getting a pretty nice lineup.
Maybe by the time you come in september we'll be running regularly.

sweet sounds good

was up there a while ago for a planet terror night. was quite good actually, not particularly rammo and there were no big names but it was a good laugh.

It has it good points and its bad points. I would say that Sheff is more a jump up crowd, but looking at the artists i've just listed below, looks like a nice mix to me.

The main nights around at the moment featuring dubstep are Detonate @ The plug, Tuesday Club @ student union, Grounded @ The plug, Dark Crystal @ Corporation/Yellow arch, Bassweight Carnival @ Yellow Arch, Subtitle @ Corporation, Bigger than Barry @ DQ, Wee Bit Mean @ DQ and very occasionally Mad Hatters Ball @ Corporation.

Just to get and idea -
Over the last 6 weeks or so, these events have featured artists such as Hatcha, The Bug, Flowdan, Rob Sparx, Benga, Distance, Grevious Angel, Joker, Oris Jay, Plastician, Mary Anne Hobbs, Geeneus, Goth-trad, Pinch, Submotion Orchestra, MRK1, Emalkay, Synkro, Indigo, Chasing Shadows, Starkey, Barbarix, Culprate, Commodo, Rogue state.
And they Youngsta/Jah tubbys booked for nye.

hehe, our radio show did a plug for that planet terror night and played a mix of theirs. Couldn't make the actual night though was a bit gutted.

sheffield gets some good nights, but its full of tits. its full of people attending who have no real interest in being there other than being on the bandwagon.

i cant stress enough how fucking annoying the fucking private school pretenders make the place.

and a lot of the soundsystems they use are dire.

tuesday club can be quite good. beeen too many times. but it is overpriced, and definately over crowded with people who just want to hear chase & status on repeat. also seems they dont really venture far. they book the same acts over and over. like clockwork is seems certain people play annually.

Yeah i agree with most of this.

The night me and my friend are organising is hopefully going to be a lot more interesting new acts (looking into booking some of the following; joy orbison, cooly g, shortstuff, untold, grievous angel)
Once we get it off the ground i'm sure you'll hear about it

ive been to corperation before, its a fuckin weird place, full of chronic goths and shit then the top floor seems to be normal. 50p vodka mixers before 12 cant complain, tho its probs paintstripper

might be goin hallam in september,got a mate who goes t sheff and he said its usually pretty good u jus gotta go with the flow a lil bit

what's really frustrating is when tuesday club actually makes a good booking and then whoever it is proceeds to play a set that's clearly designed with students in mind and thoroughly disappoints

wee bit mean has some great bookings so will be interesting to see what's next from them and rough disko has had some good ones recently too. obviously it depends what sort of dubstep you're into but i find there's lots of dubstep being played but not very much i actually want to listen to... so i stay at home like a hermit until something decent pops up

looking forward to this just what i've been looking for

go 45 mins further north and you'll find what arguably is the best place for dubstep/dnb/dub outside of london, LEEDS

yeah that's the good thing about sheffield - it's nice and close to other cities. tend to go out in leeds more than i do here

7 quid for a return with a young persons railcard so you can't go wrong since you can spend almost that much just getting a taxi to a venue

then you've got manchester, nottingham and leicester all with some good nights within an hour by train so there's plenty of options if you can be arsed travel

Had a few mates at Sheffield and they raved about Tuesday Club, I often checked the lineups and they are pretty heavy weight for a weekly night.

your all forgetting Liquid Steel Sessions who had Sticky last week and was ram jam and wicked vibez!

They have there own system and run once or twice a month with interesting fwd thinking line ups, got The Heatwave and Squire of Gothos at a secret warehouse this Friday 28th January. Guna be massive.

Watch out for them. Also 20hz Soundsystem do a lot of stuff and they have the biggest sound in the midlands imo.
