so there's a bunch of new ableton books out that look pretty cool. i just picked up the ableton live 8 power book by jon marguiles but it looks like it's pretty basic and standard fair so far, sorta just looks like the ableton manual...was kinda hoping for more of a tips and tricks kinda thing, but oh well. might read it and return it to exchange with the ableton live: create, produce, perform by keith robertson..........and that "djing and live performance with ableton" book also looks pretty neat.

anyone gotten a chance to check out any of these??

From what I understand, most of the books cover what is in the manual.

If you are looking for advanced techniques, I would go nuts on youtube, check out Nick the Zombie's Tutorials (paid), or find someone near you and go watch them make a beat - that, to me, is the best way to learn workflow tips. Everything is so open, everyone does stuff different ways, and has no clue other people work differently.

haha yeah...i kinda wish i hadn't spent the 35 dollars on it now, although i guess it is good as an external reference manual. and yeah i was really hoping it would kinda go into the different ways of using live a bit more than it does. oh well, i've already learned a couple new things so i guess i shouldn't complain 8)

i wish someone on here would start a thread about the different ways they use ableton, becuase like you said it is really open and there's just so many cool ways to do things.

Check out the Ableton Tips & Tricks thread, also, Hurling Dervish posted some great tutorials, I posted one on basses. Peep "Tom Cosm" on the web, he has like 20 or 30 pretty crazy tutorials. Lots of stuff out there and lots of folks using Live in very different ways.

I love this book right below. I learned a ton of things from this book. It shows you how to set up templates to twist up audio and resample. As well as building live sets. I've been using live since 2003 and I still pull new shit from this book.

By Martin Delaney - PC Publishing (2007) - Paperback - 151 pages - ISBN 1906005028

This book will give Live novices an insight into working methods that otherwise would take months to discover. For the most experienced user it promises a quick catch-up with Live 6's new developments (including complex new performance features, and long-awaited improvements and additions on the production side), and a new perspective on some of Live's more established features. This book does not duplicate the Live user manual, it expands upon it, and introduces creative concepts, workflow enhancements, and workrounds for common objectives and problems. It also includes interviews with high-profile Live users in a variety of musical genres, passing on their real-world experiences to you. Although the Live interface is remarkably simple, there's a lot of power under the surface. This book will show you new ways to access that power.
