If you occasionally have more then one snare hit per bar is it still considered dubstep? I tried searching but couldn't find anything.

i would steer from the ideas or formulas that make up dubstep. Just do what sounds good.
Why do we get a topic like this monthly ? if it sounds good do it !

it doesn't matter. for example, burial often uses a 2 step rhythm much like garage with 2 snares in each bar falling on the 2nd and 4th beat whereas lots of other producers put the snare on the 3rd beat.

you're kidding, right? please tell me you're kidding. there are plenty of great tunes, that have no snares, plenty that are based on dancehall patterns with tons of syncopated snares all over the place, etc, etc, etc.
THERE ARE NO RULES. the only guideline that matters is don't make weak ripoffs of other people's shit.

All right thanks guys. For some reason I thought that 1 snare per bar was necessary for dubstep.

You don't need any snares for that matter.

Aye, best not stray outside of kick on 1 and snare on 3, otherwise you'll get wrong'uns turning up at your shows.

That's if you're counting 16th notes. Counting in 4/4 the backbeat lands on 2 and 4
