Pure fire to kick off 2010 from Punch Drunk sister label Unearthed, reissuing Bristol Sound System classics of yesteryear.
Rob Smith & Ray Mighty are well documented as the Godfathers of the Bristol music scene, from producing Massive Attack's debut 12", Fresh Four's classic 'Wishing on a Star', being instrumental in the birth of Bristol Jungle and being world respected recording artists in their own right.
More recently Rob Smith in his RSD guise is back in the international frame with dubstep releases on labels such as Tectonic, Earwax and Punch Drunk culminating in a CD compilation 'Good Energy' on Punch Drunk in 2009.
This new Unearthed 12" features two unmissable and in demand original Bristol 2 step garage anthems from 2002.
‘this ere one design a lick yuh flat pon yuh back’
Tracklist :
Smith & Mighty feat Niji 40 'B Line Fi Blow'
Rob Smith ft Gaddiel 'Love & Unity'

I have been waiting for "B line fi blow" ever since your dubwar podcast Pev, only times I've heard it is in that mix and you played it for us at Ruffage the 1st time you came down aaaaaaaaaages ago. So glad these are getting digi release, will the 1st release be seeing digital as well? Or has it already and I'm just being blind?

B Line fi Blow is certainly the best track off the 2002 Smith & Mighty album 'Life is.... ' ... a triple (!) album that may have other highlights but I haven't dug it out for years (will now tho).
B Line fi Blow was also pressed as the b side of a promo 12" by !K7 at the time/ So the record company at the time did not recognise it as a future classic/ groundbreaking tune. The A side of the promo is Life Has a Way... which again I don't remember. Interestingly (or not) it looks like it was meant as a 10" release.... as there is an inch+ of blank vinyl all the way round the pressing.
While I'm at it.... if you play the 1992 Smith & Mighty tune 'Killa' (from the Steppers Delight 12") at 45... then you get an incredible proto jungle outing. Always at the forefront of the new thing.

i wish all labels would run a sub-label dedicated to releasing old lost classic dubs.. how good would that be?
