Dont really use em tbh dude.

The Vengence sample packs are popular. They arent specificly dubstep but they have loads of good Kicks, snares etc that are useful for more dancefloor type tunes.

Sampling from Vinyl or old breaks from the net is better imho. But it just depends on what you are trying to achieve.

Spawned one of the greatest d'n'b tunes of all time, Origin Unknown - Valley of Shadows...! :n:

A real spine tingler, oh yeah! 8)

Generally "dubstep" sample CD's are cliche gash, you can find better dubstep sample packs on the net and i'm sure someone will point you in the direction, but good quality sample CD's that can be used to make dubstep are older d'n'b, jungle or hiphop sample cd's like elabs Smokers Delight, zero-g Jungle Warfare or the older loopmaster ones but they tend to be costly and you can seriously put together your own sample packs using free online sources or use audacity and record your own from vinyl, CD's and youtube.

edit it was said better above

On a practical note, if you are looking for synth sounds, use a synth with a random preset generator. This gives you an unlimited amount fo sounds at your disposal with which you can make any type of music.

The freeware synth called Fuzzpilz Oatmeal works wonderfully in this respect! Camel Audio Alchemy also has this feature but will cost you a few quid to purchase.

One shot drum samples can be found on Computer Music magazine cover mount DVDs, raped from refills using a refill unpacker, and generally skanked from internet sources like http://samples.kb6.de/downloads.php or http://www.djmixsource.com/vintage-drum ... amples.htm

Sampling and beat slicing has already been mentioned, although admittedly it can be a chore.

Remember that half of edm uses generic sounds, and that the other half uses completely random sound processed to fuckery! :)

Have fun :)

I don't rate sample CDs that much, it's far to easy to end up using the same loops or hits as the possible huge number of other folk that bought the same CD too

It might take you a bit of digging around on the net try and find to a producer upped drum packs callled -
"Puffy" which is great quality collection vinyl sampled kicks, hats, snare and some drum rolls/edits. Around 3000 + samples in there.
or
"Meanbeat" is a solid pack of samples taken from hardware. 808, 909 and a great set of clean Amen parts.

I pretty much use these two packs in 95% of my tracks, I can't recommend them enough.

As mentioned earlier, the Vengeance packs are great but lots of folk use them. If you are looking for a more original/individual sound maybe have a look for something different... Whatever you do, try to use the best samples you can get your hands on.

I've felt for a long time that a dubstep remix of Valley of Shadows would be great.

I was researching the production of the song looking for the original sample/sounds/techniques used in the track. A few Google searches revealed some threads on other forums where all the juicy details are listed.

I even downloaded the ripped wavs off the CD from somewhere, although I couldn't for the life of me remember from where...! :)

Same deal with the Zero-G :z: Break.

Haha tons of the classic jungle and dnb tunes used full minute long pad samples and fx/breaks from old old old sample CD's. Back then the sample market was really thin, with maybe only 3 or 4 companies putting them out mostly through magazines. I have some of the early 90's sample CD's as well and theres tons of stuff like that, especially in the old Goldmine ones, key for classic hardcore. The ones these days sound a lot better quality wise, but content wise most of them are shit and are usually only good for the one shots. The ones that are "construction kits" with full melodies and such are the worst imo.

I grabbed a random dubstep sample pak off of primeloops or loopmasters or something when I started - yeah most of it is pretty shit - but they have decent one shots, good kicks and snares ect and decejnt random effects to chuck in tunes - don't think I'd ever consider using sampled synths though - unless it was especially tasty!
