Evening ya'll...

I'm gonna be recording some film samples and maybe a couple of snippets from the tinterweb. I am gonna be running through a mackie desk and was just wondering if you lot would use a compressor whilst recording or use it afterwards? What are the pros and cons? Also is there any other pre/post processing you reccommend when recording?

There is no reason to compress while recording unless you know there is going to be unavoidable clipping. All you're doing is losing dynamics that you can never regain.

That's what I thought.

Also, wouldn't you be looking to boost things on bits you record from films or Youtube? That probably applies to Youtube more tho'.

On second thoughts I suppose this would only be necessary when recording something where the level may fluctuate such as a vocalist. right?
