Variation between turntables

Ive never used turntables but ive used CDj's and traktor and i now want some turntables.
Ive been looking around and a guy from decks.co.uk told me i was best off buying a pair of second hand Technics SL (because i cant afford brand new ones)
he said this because "there is alot of variation between different turntables and using different ones takes time to adjust to and since most clubs etc use Technics SL's they are the ones to go for"

Any thoughts/ help?

cheers!

He probably just means that different decks have different 'feels' to them.

If you get some Technics then as he says with them being mostly standard in clubs then you will get to know the touch and feel of them when you need to adjust pitch or touch the platter. I've had Technics from day one and when i use my mates Stantons it takes me a while to get the feel of them because the platter is really light and any small touch sends it going way off. Technics need a bit more a push or a heavier pressure if slowing down if you are just tweaking the pitch. Also if you ride the pitch instead of touching the platter different makes of decks react differently as again the pitch fader reacts differently between makes
