Great tune this, but for some bizarre reason (my bad skills obviously) i cannot find anything that mixes well with it

i was wanting to play this out at the end of the month and after trying for quite a long time i cant seem to figure out anything!

so basically, does anyone know what bpm this track is?

My ears told me it was 142 and a bit... Ableton says it's 141.92

and yeah i know your right, im fine with most tunes, its just the snare on this track throws me off abit for some reason.. i'll keep practising haha.

No problem... It's the kick just before the clap/snare that is most probably catching you hearing. A great track too btw.

Which was one of the first songs ever that I mixed having started out a few weeks ago. Ironically I heard someone on dubstep.fm do the exact same mix a couple days later

Whatever he sent me 2 weeks ago its biggggg stuff, unless you're all about wobbles then it'll make you throw up haha

im definatly NOT all about wobbles haha, music has the possibility of getting way way deeper than wobbles, although i guess everything has its place.

130/140 who cares its all the same.

I dont know the track but just and work out what kind of feel and vibe the tune has. Is it a banging floor filler with loads of wobble? or is it more chilled out? does it have a hard hitting snare etc etc

If you can try and find another record that is like it in some way.

Nearly any two records can be mixed together but if it sounds good or not is up to whos picking the records.

Make sure the record is at the right speed, 33/45.

Find the first noise of the record.

Put the pitch to zero and keep ur hand on it. Throw the record in on that first noise at the right point in the record that is playing. Ie a drop.

Soon as you throw that record down you will be able to hear if it is too slow or fast. Use the pitch only and don’t touch the platter to match the tempos.

You will prob struggle and move the pitch in the wrong direction. At home you got loads of time tho so it doesn’t matter its only practice. The record may run out before you have matched it. Pull the needle and start again using the same tracks. Do this till you have matched the speed using the pitch only.

Get two more records, repeat process for months, job done. After a few months it will get easier. You will be able to do it faster and eventually be able to do it with any genre no matter what the intro is.

Cheers that is pretty helpful

Never tried that, i useally just try to mix 140bpm tracks or tracks that are very close to that bpm (138 etc)

then i'll bring in a 145 at a breakdown or whatever and then mix a few 145's, etc etc... its pretty lame,

That is good stuff for practicing but you will struggle if you move to other beat's and other tempos I think.

Do what I suggested and everything will become easier. It is tricky cos you will find it quite hard at first but you will get it eventually.

Whatever happened to Widdler? He used to always comment on this forum
