and just stayed on dub, would you go out to more nights to hear them?
or just start to lose interest?

I'd start breaking peoples legs.
But either way I'm sure we would have less idiots on this forum.

maybe it would even put an end to the USTD (united states transmitted disease).
when the party is over only those who are there to help clean up will remain.
look at how dnb is getting better now and dubstep is going to shit.
laugh

a lot of the biggest tunes never see a release. or maybe its the fact they never get released that they have a mystique about them making them more desireable.
the amount of cokie and loefah and skream tunes which id love to get in my bag is ridiculous.
I dont think i'd go out more, because i wouldnt have more money all of a sudden. but I would be more taken away when i hear a real banger when im out, which would lead to me going out the next time hoping to hear the same tunes.
I wish that after a certain amount of time producers just gave away old tracks which were never gonna get a release. or not sit on a track until its rinsed in every mix and every rave and then release it.

^^^^ this ^^^^
If they are not going to make any money off the tune (because its not been signed etc) & its been battered already, then they prob wont be playin it anymore coz they got another 10 tunes they have made. why not share the love???

because then, perhaps, they might not be known as "the dude who has this amazing back catalogue of tunes you won't hear anywhere else"
i dunno, i'm just thinking aloud... the way things are going, people making no money from releases, everyone needs to get more gigs to compensate. so the 2 obvious ways are 1)release stuff, give stuff away for free, try and spread the word, or 2)keep all your tunes to yourself+small crew, soundsystem stylee, so that more people might make an effort to go and see you play...

personally i believe its a good thing that some big tracks never see the light of day
dubplate is a big part of the dubstep culture.......
whats better than going out to a dub night and hearing a monster of a track and realizing, " Im never going to have a chance to own that track ever...."

A lot of amazing tunes stay on dub cos most producers aren't in this to make money.

Though from a producer's point of view they'd probably prefer to get booked for your crowd and play it themselves.

of course. but i think 18 months is an acceptable amount of time for them to play their own tracks out, especially at the rate some artists crank out tunes.

producers don't owe anything to anyone. its their tunes. if they want to keep them exclusive, no one can say anything about it.

its not about owing anyone anything or that they are obliged to share.
But an audience thats hungry is obviously going to get frustrated with lack of access. but there in lies the appeal and the build on demand.
doesnt mean i wouldnt like more accesability to the music. but doesnt me that im going to turn my back on it if it isnt more accesable.

they should release more of these huge tunes. itd mean theyd have to make even MORE sick tunes if they wanted the dubplate exclusiveness. that way wed all win

I hope i dot get burned at the stake for this, but you guys are sooo spoilt. Why do you think its called a dubplate culture? Do you think that Rodigan would get some exclusive bits from people only to put it out or give it away for free just cos the crowd wants it after they think its reached its shelf life? Thats crazy. From all aspects of dance music, as we grew we all heard tunes that we loved and so desperately wanted to have, but alas it never came to pass. So whats the answer? say fuck them and move on to pastures new? To me that says more about how selfish someone is then anything else and that you don't actually respect the scene or artist for what they are. Yes the digital age has given us better accesibility, helped spread the word and united everyone across the globe but at the same time its created alot of self righteous vultures who feel they have a right to own pieces of work because 'they' think they deserve it for what ever reason.
So your favorite dubplate never came out. Theres another 3000 in the pipeine that can be just as good. Learn to be patient and also not to be so precious about owning every piece of art created. Sometimes the exclusivity makes it that much more special. I know that if i see EZ, he will play his trademark dub which i loved back in the day, I would never own it, but fuck it theres a shit load of big tunes that i can own. So 10 dread commandments rmx doesn't come out. You can bet your arse if i hear that at a DMZ show, even 2/3 years of hearing it, im runnin to the front to skank out as hard as possible, cos irrespective of how i feel about owning the tune personally, its fuckin heavy. If you loose interest because you cant own it. I feel sorry for you, as it means you cant appreciate the music for what it is and probably dont deserve to own it in the first place.
Its ok to want to own something that will never come out but dont turn your back on something you love just cos you cant have it.

Haha...that sucks. I
hate that feeling. The feeling I'll get to spin it in
18 months isn't much better either.
This is 2010. Music distribution is easier than it's ever been in the history of...music. Hoarding dubs for more than a few months just seems elitist anymore.
A good DJ is a good DJ. A shitty DJ renown for their big collection of rare & unreleased tracks is basically the musical equivalent of a trust fund kid.
