Saw this on the news earlier this morning, I'm glad they finally got an apology. My mum could have been a thalidomide baby as my grandma was offered thaliomide but refused. Thank god she did...

It's disgusting it took this long for them to apologise.

It is sick.

I saw this being debated in the House yesterday and the poor bloke Mark (I cant remember his last name) who stood up for all those affected. sickening.

It makes me think of the Bhopal pestecide spill in 84', union carbide still haven't paid the full compensation or properly apologiesed nor have the US gov taken the responsibility and no one has been prosecuted.

It wasn't a debate (wrong wording), it was those affected and their representatives having a chance to stand up and say their piece. When the ruling was made.

It's not the same government that's apologising though. Of course, that lot are probably mostly dead.

Good that there is more money being given out for support.

Thalidomide was designed to ease labour pains, that's what they understood it to do. They didn't forsee the side effects.

so it's about people not doing their job properly for some reasons we can suspect to be carelessness and greed

the illusion this society cares about its members is for magma's retarded optimism, nobody gives a shit about you except maybe the close ones that love you.

it was a long time ago... there wasn't the same awareness of potential side effects

The side effects of thalidomide were responsible for a lot of regulation governing the release of drugs and testing of side effects and so on

if they couldn't do any better because reasons beyond them then it's nobody's fault, just bad luck, what's to apologize for?
apparently people feel like there is stuff to apologize for
