Legendary monitors - both in good and bad ways.

People'd probably shit bricks if they saw a list of the albums mixed on these, but then tools & talent are not one and the same, eh?

However: anyone mixing dubstep on these WILL have some issues with the low end presence (or lack thereof) as well as muddy upper mid's.

Interesting little read on the subject of these monitors...

I use ns10s and can safely say that i don't suffer from bottom-end issues or muddy upper-mids ;)

w/ that said, using ONLY ns10s to mix bass-heavy music will NOT work. not much below 80hz. but, as always, if you can get your mix sounding good on ns10s in a manageable room, you're in the clear.

it's that 1st part that's hard, as these joints are un-fucking-relenting.

I was once told that if you can make your song sound good on NS10's, it'll sound even better everywhere else!
I might actually nab these!

Get to know your speakers and environment and you can make your music sound good with anything...Although a nice set of monitors help. My £5 Asda speakers will have to do for the time being but

I was looking into possibly getting these but the resale value seems pretty high with them. Then the fact you have to purchase an amp to run them to. Probably going to get the new Yams that compare to these. I feel better getting self powered monitors because they are biamped and matched to the speakers. Defo some legendary gear tho.

I swear by my NS10's. I use them as my main monitors. It takes a while to get used to how flat they sound, but you can spot errors in your mix very easily. I don't find them fatiguing in the slightest, or have any problems mixing low end. You're more likely to run in to problems mixing low end using a sub constantly while mixing.

Truth

If you can get a mix to sound good on those, it'll sound good anywhere. Good because they're terrible.

Not terrible but rather not nice on music. The cheaper monitors usually have a little boost in the lows and highs that makes you want to buy them when you hear them but they are too nice on your music.

They are unbelievable - they were sat in my wifes family garage for 20years till I rescued them - worked perfectly straight away too
Apparently back in 1978 these were the shiz studio monitors - I still use them to test any cd I burn
They really dont make em like they used to - solid wood & weigh a ton!
I iz lucky :z:
