Can you guys explain the point of bouncing down a sound like bass for further processing ? The only thing I can think that this does to help is to decrease cpu load?
I don't see the difference in say, having a bass instrument like massive with effects chain of say compressor > eq > distortion > reverb....And simply adding some more effects versus bouncing it down first and then adding those same effects....
If anything it seems limiting because you can tweak original sound in vst once its been bounced....

we all go thru this delima. The thing is if your cpu can withstand the massive amounts of virtual memory Massive takes up, then don't bounce!
for mixes and long sets I usually try and bounce anything down that is midi... Just so there is NO chance of the computer crashing or ableton crashing during a set.

yeah I can add fx to a point but then it kills the CPU.
plus by the time my tune is done, I rather have most of the channels near dry as opposed to having shitloads of plugins open.

Other subtle bonuses are things like, if you have a flanger or some other kind of modulation (other than an LFO-->cutoff affair), the effect will speed up or slow down as you play the notes once it has been sampled, and then re-sampled.

Yes, it's for
- decrease the cpu load
- security during liveact
It could be usefull for saving random stuff.
You can also make impossible things with a synth.
For instance, bouncing a note and play this sample at different pitches.
(for strange pads, reeces or unsynchronized wobbles).

Bouncing decreses CPU load and opens of the chop-ability of your sounds... that second ones why I do it... Like, if you bounce post-effects you can stutter post effects too, where as if you chopped midi notes for the synth, the effect would be very different.

So should one bounce down to audio for cetain effect pitching in orser toget those filthy bass th I hear bar 9, downlink, cookie, datsik, cookie monsta style bass?
Also I thought you can studder a midi synth and its effects if you put a beat repeat at end of chain or on master....I will have to check this when i get home...but yes true you can't chop the midi plus effects like you can with audio for reversing or other audio specific stuff.

yeah man resample to save on CPU and to get pitch effects cause as you pitch up you speed up the sounds. Compressing it to a poorer quality can give a certain sound but apart from that, yeah just wack the effects on, I THINK. resampling these days is just bouncing down basicly, just bouncing down something. I THINK

I havent used a project file in longer then I can remember except too organize a bunch of cut up bounce down bits for final mixing... its handy if thats how your train of work thought flows...
if your gonna do it though, always use WAV...
