Hi, i'm into putting on parties and secret events and have become interested getting my own sound equipment. Working on a low budget i am looking at getting a single active speaker for around £165 with a view to later on getting a second and then collecting subs. For my first active speaker I am interested in maximum volume with acceptable quality (interested in playing mainly bass music) Any purchase recommendations would be much appreciated :)

Save your money n buy all at once... If what you build in front of you is a pile of random cheap bits, thats what its gonna sound like.

N your not gonna get much in live sound for that price dude... hell... you wont get much in monitors

For that price forget about acceptable sound quality, you have your choice between Behringer, Behringer and maybe you might want to check out the Behringers.

cheers for the advice. i'm pretty sure i'd fuck up building my own. Mite go in with a mate to get 2 behringers, but in the 15"
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B215D.aspx

HOWEVER, is the B215D the most appropriate 15" in the behringer range?

The sound man I use has a spare rig that is ALL Behringer. It actually doesn't sound that bad considering. The biggest problem is you will get stuff from them that just doesn't work, if you get shit that works then you should be ok.
