ripping DVD samples

got no production software on this PC so I've been ripping some film samples as something to do...

basically I'm having to record through soundforge the stereo mix - this causes a slight amount of hiss as the soundcard in this PC is bog standard and makes for shit quality samples.

some one was telling me about some software where you can basically rewire the DVD player (in the DVD drive) straight to soundforge so it won't have any background noise.

is this way any good or are there any better ways to record film samples you lot could sugguest? how about a way to just extract all the audio from a DVD as I could just cut it out?

here's a great tutorial using DVD Decrypter...

the audio is converted into ac3 files and DVD Decrypter is freeware but can be tricky to find, good luck!

p.s. it will only work with a 2 channel audio stream, surround sound is not "do-able"

DVD2AVI will rip the audio from a dvd and convert to wav. The older versions had mp3 option as well. This would work only if you want the audio from the whole dvd.

I think the audio has to be extracted from the video and then you have to cut the part of the audio you want out with something else

ive been wanting to do it as well, just havent been able to give soundforge enough of a chance to do what i want with it
