Hello DSF,

I've been a lurker on this website for ages now because of my passion for producing. I've finally decided to take the step of getting my first studio monitors (also making my first post :D ) and after researching and comparing various models that fall within my price range I'm stuck between the Alesis M1 Active 620 Studio Monitors http://www.soundstore.co.nz/p-310-alesi ... nitor.aspx and the KRK Rokit Powered 8 Generation 2 Monitors http://www.musicthingz.com/rokit-powere ... -6258.html

I'm looking for any recommendations as I don't really have the opportunity to test them out due to the fact the music shops suck here... Even any suggestions of monitors that are of equal value/performance for use in my bedroom studio. Also I'm planning on getting the Apogee Duet http://www.musicthingz.com/apogee-duet- ... -7576.html so I can actually use them on my Mac (plus it looks like a handy recording interface :) ). Good idea?

Cheers! :e:

provided you only need 2 in/2 out, the duet's great.

KRK rockit's are solid speakers. They can be a little fatiguing after a while, but they're great bang for the money.

w/ that said you'd be surprised how many great records have been mixed (or at least rough-mixed) on m1 actives. no one's ever gonna brag about 'em but they're decent workhorse speakers for sure.

I was already leaning towards the KRK's so I might just go ahead and get them. Yeah well I only need to use a mic and my bass guitar for my recordings (midi controller for the rest) but I guess that if I was looking to add a sub to my set up I would have a problem with the duet but I can deal with that later!

Thanks for the feedback
