Im talking mainly about drum hits here. Where do you get high quality hats and shit all the hats i use in my tunes sound like shit compared to tunes that i listen to.
And this is after i compress/ eq/ and add reverb to em. Granted all the drum hits i use are from freeware sample packs , since i just started producin from scratch like 5 months ago or so. also. my kicks are shit as well. same with my snares. i play around layering them (snares) but only very rarely do i get something that sounds good , and that is after layering and playing with it for hours it seems. Should i just be sampling snares directly from tunes? i have very little knowledge of how to sample anything. how would i go about sampling 1 snare hit of a individual tune. and if im sampling, do i need a much better soundcard for it to come out sounding exactly like i heard it. cuz once i tried resampling a bass patch i made but it sounded completely different on playback then it actualy did when i made it.

yea sorry to ramble off ona few different things there. jus tryin to learn and thers so much to learn and so little time if you know wwhat i mean. also, another thing im wondering about is a term i hear on this forums every now and then and still have no clue what it is. "bouncing" like "dude bounce your drums" wtf does that mean? thanks in advance for any help

oh and by the way the main question i want answered is : where do you get high quality drum samples/hits ?

first off: don't worry that your drum tracks don't sound like anybody else's. uniqueness is a very admirable trait. my drums all come from free sample kits, i'll send 'em to you if you want. but it takes me a good couple hours on each song, all told, to get my drums sounding the way i want. you gotta really work at it. that includes selecting kicks and snares, then layering and mixing them, adjusting various parameters (tuning, stretch, decay for starters) and getting em playing a decent pattern... then finding a ton of hi hats, cymbals, rides, bleeps, effects... panning them, getting levels just right, writing new patterns, adjusting the shuffle. might seem like a hassle, but i tend to enjoy it. it's very satisfying to finally get an absolutely killer beat with ridiculous swagger. you just gotta be willing to put in a lot of time.

Try not putting on so much compression, eq, reverb etc. Alot of the time you'll find that your samples might not need it to the degree you might expect them to.

Breaks are a totally different story ... but if you want the best drum machine samples money can buy (and for ridiculously cheap)...

stylus, battery, and a lot of found sound stuff.

for hats, a mixture of live-sounding hats and 808/909 stuff. same goes for kicks-- often a bunch of live-sounding kicks w/ a 909 layered under 'em for a nice electronic oomph.

do as much as you can w/o compression and EQ. quite often the only compression i'm doing to drums is in parallel on the whole drum bus; individual sounds (and grouped) sounds don't get any processing-- maybe just some hipassing on the hihats to get junk out under 300hz or so.

The Amen drums off this are my main drumkit atm. Such warm sounds but don't sound too "amen like"

i would encourage always experimenting tho. i use the vengence essentials a good amount, but in turn it makes my drum tracks feel less unique. i think they're great for laying down ideas, but using filters or other unique samples over them really gives my stuff character. if your sticking to a certain batch then you're not doing it right imo.

I come from a hip hop background... so ive spent years cutting single shots from the vinyls i could find... then ive got thru that short phase where id download every kit i could find.. and stack it on my drive.. which i STRONGLY disrecommand...

if u want to produce better rythm sections.. u have to KNOW ur sounds... spend some time tweaking them.. and SORTING them... and get rid of anything that u wouldnt use... its a matter of puttin together an arsenal of sounds that really sound like YOU want to sound...

I would also spend some time learning about mixing techniques.. im not really good at that.. and my ears are severely busted from the many years of music bumping, dancing and scratching ive gone thru (irresponsibly)... but a little knowledge on corrective eqing techniques and basic compression can really make a BIG difference..

Oh and condition urself to LISTEN TO THE ACTUAL SOUNDS.. somehow like uve never heard of them before... ur own style has to come from u ... and from constructing a relationship with ur sounds... lemme sound less esoteric : Often, when u hear sounds, you are gonna treat them by comparing them to other sounds uve heard in productions.. although this is a valuable reflex, ur better off actually thinking of the dynamics and the frequency spectrum of the sound itself.. its character,, rather then its aesthetic side.. ull end up with some pretty original results...

sounds are like girls.. just focus on the very current moment and ull be clotheless, reliefed and peaceful before u can even realize it

the goldbaby samples sound great i do pretty much nothing to them

Konkrete 1 + 2 by soniccouture are pretty unique and sample magic make some good sample packs.
