Hey guys just new to the forum its probably been answered somewhere else but i just came up with a pretty decent track but it doesnt have enough bass. Im using ableton live 8 with massive.
2 different basslines:
1. Osc 1 pitch is set at -24 chrome wave (bend +/-)
Osc 2 pitch is set at -24 sine triangle (spectrum)
Osc 3 pitch is set at -24 sine triangle (bend -)
2. Osc 1 pitch is set at -24 chrome wave (bend +/-)
Osc 2 pitch is set at -24 sine triangle (spectrum)
Osc 3 pitch is set at -12 screamer (spectrum)
Now how do i go about making it a good quality bass and i mean phat bass. I dont want to use eqs or anything cause they just distort. is there a setting in massive which you can adjust or anything.
Thanks guys

phat bass = chorus, reverb, layering, compression, delay, distortion..... so on and so forth, all of those effects have some kind of phattening feature

EQing is not simple and on/off feature with predetermined effect on the source sound. If you EQ incorrectly and depending on what kind of sound you are going for, yes the quality may suffer. EQing is more used for emphasising or removing certain frequencies across the bands.

Use a sine wave as a sub bass hitting between 40-50 hz. Use eq to cut any frequencies from your massive bass that will clash with the sub. add reverb with a short decay time. layer your basses, add effects (distortion, chorus ect..). in massive try messing with the dimensions expander effect. experiment in the voicing tab (unison ect). play with the modulation oscilator. try modulating different things with lfo's, like wave table position of the oscilators. i like using the scream filter as it gives the sound a bit of distortion but be aware that this is essentially a lpf so if you do use it try boosting some of the high frequencies using eq. hope this helps.

So what do you use to get the sub sine? A second instance of massive or some other vst? What about a sine wave in simpler? Combine to two in a rack and eq there?

Yeah, i just create another instance of massive(but u can use any synth) and use one oscillator(sin/square), set to sine. Some people like using square waves for subs because they've got extra harmonics, but i prefer just a pure sine wave. With subs its generally a good idea to roll of any frequencies bellow 40hz using eq because anything bellow 40 is inaudible and tends to muddy up your track. Read this from the DSF production bible. This should help.

If you are only usitwo of the three osc in massive, can you use the third osc for your sub or is it better to use a seperate instance of massive or another synth? why or why not?
