Thought you were a bit harsh on Hijak after his brilliant releases on Deep Medi and Tectonic this year. But otherwise on point.
Poor Sadie Ama...

i didn't say anything negative about HiJak, did i? i think my only observation was about his ex-jungle connections... which was only an observation.

oh sorry. no all i was saying was that was probably his initial connection with dubstep, not that he'd spotted loads of d&b heads getting involved.

I thought it was a good article... big up.
Just to clear up a few points about myself for future reference..
..I haven't been in the 'drum & bass scene' for well over 8 years!
(tho i do still go out with some of the old Inta lot from time to time )
..I was playing 2step/ukg from around 1998.. releasing a track called ' I'm Ready ' with the lockgroove loops on the flip around '99.
.. have always followed the 'dubstep' sound from the early days of fwd at velvet rooms, just not as closely as the last year or so..
..have been playing (and still do) deep house since around 2000/01

I distinctly noticed this today. Went down the record shop, got handed a dozen tunes from the last month and couldn't help feeling theres too much emphasis on the low-end by newer producers. Too many minimal tunes (beat, wobbly bassline and possibly a sample) which just don't work all that well. Loefah's still one of the few ppl that can get away of it (and he is an absolute master). The most interesting tunes are always the ones with the emphasis on the high-end for me personally.
And its good that plenty of ppl out there are eager to start their own labels and get stuff out there but can't help thinking that there is a bit of quality control gone amiss. I personally think more producers should spend more time getting their stuff out there, played by DJs on radio and in clubs, and then think about putting it out on vinyl rather than the other way round.

Yeah, on point re: N-Type. I love the fact that without releasing many beats he's become a big name and well respected DJ. He totally owns the late night, high energy slot at raves.
Hes got a nice choppy but accurate almost grime-esque mixing style too. Good radio presence too so big up N type i say

Once Caldas- yeah there are some boring tunes knocking about, I suppose as the music expands there's going to be more and more stuff I don't rate though. Not that I keep up with new tunes at all lol

Pinch + DMZ = Lowend destruction!!! That man knows how to keep it minimal.

If you want something done right, in the award stakes or otherwise, you're probably best to do it yourself, which is the organizing principle behind the second annual Dubstep Forum Awards, whose nominations, categories, and winners were chosen by the scene, for the scene.
To say it was "done right" and that the results were determined by "the scene" is debatable.

What was done wrong about it? I sort of agree about the scene bit, but he made it very clear it was a forum based awards thing. He's not exactly misleading people.
