Deadlys totally right... there are probably 200 threads named 'Formant Filter' ... where you could have found this info... And if you the search button to find a thread called 'DSF Google' ... itll all be easier.

FYI, HamVST does exist.

If you dig deep enough into this forum, you'll find download links too.

I don't recall who made it, but it was a synthmaker plugin with presets like gammon and sizzling bacon.... 8)

@ OP - Google Form8 filter and the best freeware formant filter will pop up :)

thought for the day: chasing something that's been done to death for the past 18 months (ie, vowel-shaped formant filters on distorted wobbly bass) leads to a race for second place, while folks who originate sounds will keep on originating.

If you keep trying to imitate skream, skream will always be ahead of you. Same for Datsik and Excision. If i saw the same folks asking about formant filters also asking about rhythms, about harmony, about sourcing different sounds, about any other of the gazillion ways to push things forward-- this wouldn't be an issue.

but.. i don't.

/discuss.

I still think people are to harsh on newbies who want to get "that sound". I myself started because I wanted to make some phat bassline I heard and thought "woah, simple beat, phat bass and it's awesome!". Of course, to date I haven't made anything remotely like it but I stuck with producing for longer than ever before, it got me hooked. I still try to do this sound and along the way I learnt a shitload of other stuff. True, if they copy Datstik, Datstik will be ahead, but they aren't trying to outsmart Datsik and be better, they try to make this sound because they like it, so why not? They are beginners just as I am and not on a journy on being the next Dubstep shooting star!

YA YA YA sound is kinda wanted too much nowadays though its like all people want to do. plus instead of looking around they make more shit topics. i kinda think we should start a new mass thread where we de-construct and artists Signature sound-- IE Bar9 or someone so that anyone who looks in the thread can learn how to make that sound. Yes No?

True, but half the people on here come across like "ive dled frooty and reason and spent about ten mins on it i cant sound like datsik/excision and i need spoonfed instructions, links, instant fixes and presets. "

if people spent a while trying to do something theyd A prob likely come up with something new and different anyway and B not ask the same questions that have been done to death.

A bitcrusher will not make you sound like whoever, nor a formant filter nor anything else but a knowledge of you tools, a will to experiment and a fuckload of time and effort.

Not a dig specifically at OP BTW, just a general observation.

This happens wayyyyy to much. Have you all forgotten when you heard that song you LOVED and wanted to know how to make that bass you loved or that drum riff you just couldnt get out of your head? Yes there is to many of these threads, and YES im tiered of reading them too and YES they need to use the search function.... but even more than that im tierd of reading you folks who have the time shred these guys just for wanting to know! The thirst for knowledge leads to enlightenment and I have a good feeling it'll lead to one of these cats making you wonder "hey, what do I do know... I flamed this kid 20 times last year and now I have no one to wank off to get the dubs :( " give it up. The production forum is to discuss production, when you discuss things with other ppl its gonna involve answering questions, why dont you try asking your own questions and learn a lil somthing yourselves instead of putting someone down who very well may end up producing the tunes that push dubstep to new levels....... besides... if this guy doesnt learn how to make YOY bass he may never make AAAWWWAAAAWWAAAAAAGGGGGGG Bass and then you wont get to flame the kid who wants to make that. :z:

I agree - I got into music when I was 8 because I wanted to make the sounds I loved...

BUT the difference was I put some effort into it. I studied an instrument, took lessons, practiced day in & day out, spent hours listening, experimented... gave it a go, and it it didn't work, I went back to the lab.

The term n00b isn't applied to those who are new to a journey, but rather those who expect it to be handed to them on a platter with a parsley & lemon wedge garnish

You have to learn the rules before you can break them.

And in a different context, if you'd got yourself a new car and wanted to pimp it, would you buy yourself a Haynes manual or ask the cool kids with the bodykitted motors who live down the street?

True, and TRUE! Im not trying to defend anything and will make the record show that any noise I wanted to make I messed about with for weeks until I figured it out. We've all wished it was as easy as asking someone tho and will be the first to admit that when someone offers up a gem on here, I learn from it. A manual is one thing... dont dare try and post up here "how do I load a preset" or I'll flame ya myself... the manual deff doesnt have a section called "how to make dubstep YOY bass" tho and when you first start producing and you find a good production forum you start reading and thing "man! these guys are ninjas!. I bet they could clear up everything for me" and then you take some one who looks up to you and is asking for help...... and you show them what a true tnuc you are by having a good laugh at thier expense. This isnt the way were supposed to care for our fellow dubsteppers..... what are we... a buncha electro house producers?

At least we wouldn't get asked about wobble bass. Unless they were trying to make fidget.

yes and this was pre internet and i spent hours working out how tpower did all his mad edits through trial and error and experimentiation and learned a load of cool tricks along the way. You might think that were being arseholes but youll never learn unless you do all this yourself and not just copying "how to's" off the internet, and wobble tutorials on youtube.

poss poss the reason theres so much generic crap around so quickly in such a promising scene 5 years ago. dnb has been shit for years for the same reason, everyone copying everyone else, or the 2 or 3 big players at any given moment.
