there is something very wrong with gaga
it is garbage, but people dig it cos its "original" and she writes her own songs
nothing original about it, except the blatant symbolism a seven year old would recognise

is there any doubt about the existence of think tanks that can scientifically design catchy songs that will get stuck in people's heads and induce brainstates that result in susceptibility to subtle suggestion? if there is doubt, you should doubt the doubt. and if there's no doubt, then why's there surprise?

It is actually possible to completely break and erase someone's mind through shock and trauma. Whether or not they've managed to successfully re-program people who've undergone these experiences, after years of continued research, is something I can't comment on.
