Brand new dubstep fan

So I got started on shit like Bar 9, Dr Philth, Borgore, Cookie Monsta, Excision, Datsik and a few others I cant think of ATM. Since then I've been listening to a lot of Matty G, Eskmo, DJG, 12th Planet and Breakage which is shit I found after I came here. So from what I, as a n00b, can seem to grasp is that there is dubstep that seems really artistic and expressive, and then there's Dr Philth, Borgore, Cookie Monsta who seem to just be doing what sounds like "dubstep" but doesn't have it's own style at all.

Is there subgeneres here that I am missing the distinction between? Some history I should read or something? I'm not much of a musical elitist so I don't need to know everything but I'd like to be able to know a few record labels/artists that are garaunteed not to be a waste of my listening time. I'm really fucking tired of Dr Philth in particular, his style gets old really quick and that's all my roommate is currently banging.... It's getting annoying as fuck. Anyone who's been listening to this kind of music for a long time and not gotten tired of it, I want to hear your favorite artists :)

No more Borgore please...

Horsepower Productions, El-B, Kode9, Loefah, Mala, Coki, Skream, Benga, Cotti, Cluekid, Vex'd, Burial, D1, Distance, Kromestar, MRK1, a million other people.

But the chainsaw Borgore shit is just too much for me, and you're obviously getting tired of it.

Labels I keep up with:
DMZ, Deep Medi, Tectonic, HotFlush, Planet Mu (not all of their stuff is dubstep though), Hyperdub, Swamp81, Chectplate, Hench

First invest in one of these.

Then listen to anything on DMZ, Deep Medi or Skull Disco Label.

Also compulsory viewing.

By then you should have a good ear for anything decent.

you know i.e skream =/= cookie monsta. just because it's not your style doesn't make it less of a tune for the next man.
these are all established and successful producers who you really shouldn't be 'calling out'. if you've been listening to dubstep long enough you'd know that there's alot of different shit but nevertheless it's all dubstep dude.

You shouldnt say someones got no style. Cookie monsta and Doctor P both make the music that they want to make and they do it there own way. Just because it may not be a style that u particularly like it doesnt make it any less good, and as for Borgore, I dont think u can find many ppl with a style like his, it may not be your thing but some people obviously enjoy his tunes and i recon that he has a laugh making them. Dubstep should be fun!!

I've always been into Subscape, The Others, and 16Bit for the jump up stuff but all the borgore and cookie monsta etc. are abit too far for me 2bh.

Fuckin styles upon styles upon styles upon styles.... Thanks again for all the music. I just got done watching that redbullacademy video with Mala, my mind is fuckin blown.

@ShortFuze & Sensi Samurai, didn't mean to offend or make fun of those producers, I'm sure they're putting their heart into everything they put out it's just not my cup of tea. I thought it was at first and I'm glad I heard it, but playback value is something I scrutinize all music I listen to on and that shit was just not up to par (for me).

Peace.

lol you got converted REAL quick, i read a topic from you yest how you've only listened to borgore et al.

try checking out Joy Orbison, Marytn, Untold and Addison Groove (AKA Headhunter)
dubstep is really starting to break out of the 140bpm mould, not saying that ALL dubstep is 140 but its more common now that tunes are made at like 133 etc

chasing shadows, fused forces, riskotheque, nero, reso.. heck there's just too much out there
