I was wondering how to get that sounds of kind of old, distorted, almost from a damadge vinyl sound that gorrilaz use a lot in their demon days album?
Is it just a sample pack or a plugin?
Help please

well don't quote me on this but i think the most efficient way of getting that sound is by in fact sampling drums off old, distorted, damaged vinyl...

I maintain that recording some monkeyz and then pitch-shifting them down would be better............. (sorry for the bad joke

)
Actually, you can use plugins like
Izotope Vinyl,
OtiumFX Sonitex or
Luxonix LFX-13130 to achieve this sound... Much quicker than the above suggestions..
There are other plugins that exist that do the same thing, although I forget the name of them right now. Search the plugin database over on
KVRAudio.com checking the 'Lo Fi' option in the effects section. Also check out some of the free plugs available at
gersic.com/plugins.

You make it sound so easy
You could also just record with shitty mics/recording hardware (aka cell phones). I think Hudson Mohawke does that alot to get his drums

If your using Ableton you can use the erosion effect. I usually put to of these on one with the wide noise setting and one as sine. Then I just EQ the nasty bits
