easily my favorite stateside producer, his output is pretty fantastic and he's done very few tunes that I'm not into.

a lot of the guys from san fran are fantastic as well, DJG & Juswan specifically.

Noah D, Djunya and DJG are pretty solid too, on a different tip though.

there are loads of wicked producers stateside. starkey does big music, but it's not a competition kids.

as mentioned djunya, matty g, parson, dz, and i'm sure there's shit tons of others that are moving.

and kryptic minds? really?! better technical producers than pj? nah nah nah, not in a million years. there's nothing innovative about any km stuff i've heard. it's just a refinement of stuff that's already out there.

check out starkey's orchestral stuff, as well as the fact that he teaches production, masters his own stuff properly etc etc etc... pj has been around for donkeys years and his material is laced with all the qualities of someone who has a very deep understanding of music.

new album is really top notch though. pleasure points is the standout one for me. although i'm always going to be biased. to play devils advocate, i'd say some of the other stuff from this year that isn't on the album is perhaps quite samey and kind of what youd expect, particularly the remixes (apart from the innerpartysystem remix which is just ridiculous). but once you carve out a sound for yourself, that's always going to happen... worked for joker!

to clarify though, i think there are almost definitely a heap of better sound designers out there in the world... it's just hard to compare them unless they're making the same music.

deffinately one of the best, but i haven't really enjoyed anything by him since his album came out.
