Has acid made a comeback with the kids?

I'm just wondering since stuff goes in cycles if acid is back as the party drug of choice. Back in my day in the early to mid 90's acid was huge, then e came around and turned everyone into soother sucking, glow stick waving, big pant wearing douches. The music seemed to lose it's creativity and settled into it's pigeon holes. Around the 2000's e was definetly the most popular and easiest thing to find at parties. Of course LSD was around and so was meth, k, coke whatever else, but there was a shift from LSD to e being the preferred escape for the people I associated with.
Maybe I'm just thinking too much about it or something, but the kid who got me into dubstep was into acid. And the sounds of dubstep just bring me back to those days when experimentation was rampant in music because the producers were experimenting with LSD. To me dubstep on acid would be way better than dubstep on e.
Thoughts?

Never went away, just wasn't as popular as in 'the days'. All my adult life I would have been able to get a hold of it if I wanted... Never fellt like it since 1999 actually ;)

Easy to get a hold of on raves or in any big city if you ask a couple of people imho.

I haven't really noticed it. But then, I don't think I've ever seen anyone taking meth; make of that what you will.

Frankly I've got much more of a stomach for mdma-inspired music than the kind of stuff usually associated with acid. Psytrance anyone?

well those squelchy 303 lines will always have a place... i still hear 'em plenty..

oh wait..

i can't say whether acid's a thing or not. it is where i'm from. i wouldn't be producing electronic music if i'd never taken that first dose, nor would i be as happy or have some kind of sense of what i am... it will make any good dubstep track come so alive and SO crazy... amazing stuff... also works well with DnB and Glitch hop

This whole "drugs and inspiration" thing gets a bit tired IMO. I completely agree that drugs can give you amazing experiences and be inspirational, don't get me wrong. But there shitloads of music out there which is absolutely crazy and was made by people who aren't taking stuff. Connecting creativity to drugs is doing everyone a disservice IMO.

I think this is a thread about one's drug of choice, not whether music created under the influence of this or that drug is better.

It wasn't my intention to get into a what drug is your favorite thread. But the LSD mind state is undeniably a huge force when it comes to creativity, it's a state of mind not a "drug". I agree that there is tons of good music made by people who never tried acid or any drugs, but the best music was made on it.
I just can't help thinking dubstep was made for people on LSD by people on LSD. Of course I could be completely wrong, but that's my opinion. Guess I just wanted some backup for my theory.
And for the record I havent tried it since 1999 either, and probably will never try it again. I also wonder if I would have ever got into EDM or production and djing (let alone understand my self and the world a little better) if I never dropped that first tab.

I understand this is your opinion, but to say "the best music was made on it" is a bit of a wild presumption, don't you think? I would be interested to hear your top 20 favorite songs/tracks, or artists. How do you know that they were produced/sung/performed while on LSD? A bit hard to know since it doesn't mention that sort of thing in the track info. I'm saying this because even by your definition of what the "best music" is, its hard to know.

Probably a a few people are going to post in this thread and say that they love dubstep and LSD and produce their best stuff while on LSD. This doesn't provide any backup to the theory that dubstep is made by people on LSD for people on LSD. All it means is the ones who agree with you, agree with you. Listening to dubstep while on LSD you probably think "this was made for people with LSD these producers must have been on LSD". I think any music that you like would sound better on LSD. Some music that you don't like could possibley sound better on LSD. I reckon that throat singing done by Tibetan Monks would flip you right out on LSD. But I don't think they are LSD (maybe they are lol)...

hahaha meow meow, what a tool. meph is dead now, acid won't get big because its still dodgy as fuck and you've gota know someone to get it. Fish paste is getting big round here and the same with that new energy shit. For me dubstep and LSD have no link whatsoever.

The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Tool, Plasticman, Ween, Beck, Os Mutantantes, Hendrix, The Doors, MGMT,... just to name a few of my favorite artists that I know did acid a lot. I'm not saying they were high on LSD at the time of the recordings, if you have ever tried it you would know it's hard to do everyday things while on it; but with practice it's not a stretch that they could have done it. but it's all about how your thinking patterns change after you have done it, you can see through all the bullshit in this world and see the universal truth for what it is. I know I sound like some hippy stoner, but it is hard to put into words how it makes makes one feel.
I feel like all I have to do is mention the Beatles because LSD played a major role in how the Beatles were able to change the face of music forever. I seriously believe music history would be completly different if the Beatles never went on those mind trips. And almost every band worth mentioning has at least one of those bands I mentioned as an influence.

I challenge you to name any band that hasn't done drugs and is more influential than the ones I mentioned.

I know what you mean man... Seems a lot of people readily welcomed the arrival of MDMA, saved on spending half the night trying to balance up LSD and speed, hah. I've always seen LSD as an ultimate 'mental base' - whilst you're influenced by it, you can throw other chemicals in and they'll significantly alter the states. To be honest, I often found k to be the best buddy to take to clubs, though it's a chemical that often backfires when done in public for me ha. Smoked biffs for too long; they're just bread and butter of a regular day, always amuses me to see people at raves acting bigman as they got a spliff boiling ha

As you said already though, LSD differs because it results in such a natural feeling where you know you are yourself and are aware of the changed states. I never got into stimulants too much for the reason that they're more similar to just having a different program controlling your mind for a bit, and there's little worse when you;'re partying than the depressing questioning voice of "am i fucked yet?" that spirals into a controlling haze

My only real downside about acid or even mushrooms at clubs is that they often make physical contact slightly unpleasant. This isn't that much of a factor in producing drug inspired music though, because the state of mind is different when you're bored at home, too wasted to crawl away from a glowing laptop. A lot of dub music has a good organic and flowing vibe to it, perfect to see with more senses than just the hearing, though a lot of it can be dissapointing. When you're mashed and visualising all the sounds and simultaneous tracks and knowing you could make that tune in 10 minutes, makes you wonder why so few people try to push the boundaries. At the end of the day, my worst club experiences have been the nights of 15 pints or so. Anything that effectively dilutes alcohol and nicotine intake without detracting from the fun is worth dabbling with

I've got a load of experimental dark and trippy vibes, all heavily influenced by chemistry if ya wanna hear it! Been working on one over this weekend, courtesy of a few dried mushies I found in an old art folder, ha
