I'm in the market for two new turntables but I dont have the money to drop on tech's. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a beginer looking to spend a 150-300 maybe 400 on each turntable. They will be used with serato. thanks for your help.

theres no point in buyin g anything but technics or vestax.....

1. Used technics on ebay for about 500 quid for a pair
2. Get the numarks, heard good things about them

I got my TT500's 2nd hand, but hardly used, for 270 quid, with two Ortofon Pro S cartridge+needles included.

Absolute steal if you ask me! Was off a very good friend mind you. One day ill get technics - but for the price I got these for it was too good too pass, and the deck is a solid deck like I said before.

i got my techs second hand for 300 with the technics carts and pro s needles. not had much experience with other decks but iv been loving using mine

OP... When shopping for a turntable man, consider torque of motor, power on time (from still stand to full platter speed), and tremble. Usually, when your buying decks from a shop like GC, they will let you have a quick test of em... be sure to see if they have the torque to maintain speed with a lil bit of platter bump, ect. Ask about the tremble rating, and compare it to modern VESTAX tables (as I understand thiers is actually alot more steady speed the 1210's were). Oh... dont forget to check pitch accuracy... Easiest way I can think, is to compare 0% pitch on the deck your pricing to the same song being played digitally (i.e. take your midnight request line record with you, and have the mp3 on you ipod to...) and just make sue thier DAMN close to each other.

I think the issue isn't "are Technics the best".

The MUCH more important point is that turntables all feel slightly different to operate, and that practically every club in the world with a pair of turntables has a pair of Technics. If you ever play out, it makes sense to practise on the same gear as you'll find in the clubs. If Technics were old and rubbish and there were MUCH better options available now I'd probably recommend otherwise, but the fact is, while there may be other brands and models offering minor improvements, Technics are still very good turntables and the improvements aren't enough to justify choosing something other than the model you'll encounter in 98% of the places you DJ.

Yer im rocking tt50's, great decks, unbelievable torque on them. The plus |+10/20 pitch is great when mixing house etc into dubtep.
(i use technics weekly when i play out, ill probably be buying them just because they are different, and its annoying adapting every time i switch between them)

because i've bought 5 sets of decks including vestax, stanton, gemini, numark, and kam .... and u know what i had my technics decks to start with and they are the only set of tables i still have working

they have to be the most durable decks money can buy.

(very pissed off my vestax arnt working need to get them repaired)

Save your money for some used technics.

I'm guessing he means that you might as well learn on what the industry standard is and the decks your gonna be playing on when you get gigs. but there are other decks that get the job done and are still high quality.

you sure as hell can beat the shit out of techs and they still work. I saw one fall 15 feet off stage, we plugged it back in and it worked fine. Had a nice dent in the corner though.
