Logic users - best built in for sub?

What do fellow Logic users use for sub?

I've got a simple sine patch for the ES2, and i've heard people saying about using the default EXS24 patch without adding anything. What synth and processes inside Logic do you normally use?

i dont use this myself, but apparently the klopfgeist can give you a pretty mean sub bass.

I've never really messed around with the klopfgeist very much, might have to give that a try :d:

Most of the time I use ES2 (not the sub preset) with single sine wave, subtle distortion slight and compression.

Getting the Autofilter to self oscillate (turn the resonance up to 100%, then cutoff determines the pitch) and resampling that + tuning to the key of the piece can give some nice results.

You can also get some nice results with the EFM1.

Not Logic, but Ableton has a default sub called hip hop sub, turn it up to around 12.5db and with a bassline on top and it's niiice,

Default EXS24 or EXS24 sampling the end of an 808 - I find that because of the extras in an 808 it can sound a bit fuller if sub be the main focus. Each to their own. I remember from Breakage's Q & A he uses the default EXS24...so I'm sure the potential is in it for sick sub.

ESX24 but with my custom 808 kick sub in it.

sometimes just use the stock ESX24 patch.

I use Massive on the pure Sine OSC. Never tried the EXS. Is it better? :?:

the EXS is a lot more CPU friendly, and it doesn't cost £160 so from that standpoint, yes ;)

This fo' sho'!

I fannied around for years with so many other approaches trying to nail a good sub sound before someone tipped me off about the blank EXS. I have it saved as a channel strip preset in different variations, some with glide/and or pitch envelopes for sub drops etc.

for the time being i slam on a sine from es2 and then jack it up with the bass boost then tweak around with the envelopes.

im starting to think im going the long way around!
