Sub-bass....Compression and limiting!

Currently making a track, but the only element that i feel is not fitting is the sub-bass.

I have it Low Pass Filter at 80HZ

Its hitting -30db

But its drowning everything!! i keep lowering the db but its still too loud.

I currently dont have any compression or limiter on it, can someone help us out, cos then the track is complete!

Cheers in advance.

how many oscillators you have on?

Sounds stupid, but are you sure there's nothing else hitting in that frequency range eg the low end of another bass sound?

macc is god....

but if i had mine at -12db thats all i would hear....

in 3osc on FLstudio

i have 2 sines and one triangle. you need to turn something down or not use as many oscs... 2 should work fine mate

by the get down
its all relative bruv, what are the other elements hitting the meters at? i.e. Turn everything else up.

i thought the rule was cut stuff rather than turn stuff up.

The bandwidths for everything are fine. nothing over laps!

ill remove an oscillator and post back

He means check whether everything else is even quieter - if your bass is at -30dB, it's still going to be too loud if everything else is at -40dB.

The "cut don't boost" thing is
a) talking about EQ'ing rather than adjusting levels - where you can turn things up or down to your hearts content and
b) wrong - or at least, it's advice that either relates to acheiving a particular goal (mixing real instruments so that they sound as natural as possible) or certain situations but isn't a universal law.

Number of oscillators shouldn't make much difference if by 'hitting -30dB' you mean that the level meter is peaking at -30 - 3 oscs peaking at -30 between them is the same amount of bass as one osc peaking at -30...

sounds like there is something wrong with your mix but the simple answer is; if its too loud, turn it down.

Kick -12db
Snare -11db
Hi Hat -22db
Mid Range Bass -14db
Pads -34db
SubBass -30db

:?

What happens if you cut out the midrange bass?

Could there be stuff in that that you're confusing with stuff coming from the sub?

The midrange is HP at 200HZ

And the Sub is made of 4 sine waves.... mono.... no pitch change, no compression, LP at 80
