Rusko gets daytime airplay...

In my work radio 1 is the music of choice for the workers. Personally im not a fan but hey i can blank it out and work away, until today i noticed on Greg James show a familiar tune. At about 2ish there was airplay of Rusko's "woo boost". Now i know Rusko isnt a particularly underground artist and that radio 1 gave Skreams remix of "in for the kill" alot of airplay, but does this point to a vast acceptance of dubstep into mainstream music culture. Also does this heighten the chances of more dubstep tunes getting more daytime play?
I believe several dubstep artists deserve heaps of success but would i really want dubstep to truly step into mainstream. Probably not.
Opinons?

A lot of dubstep is mainstream now, doesn't make it less good.

is that because of dubstep moving into the mainstream or the mainstream becoming dubstep?

it's got the potential to make some shit get turned out, because of unimaginative stnuc.
but that's all I'm saying- and now I'm staying out of this thread.

i never stated that if its mainstream its shit....
i dunno this will come across as very elitist and snobby but theres a certain crowd i def would rather not see at dubstep events. When i first saw skream back a few years back the crowd was your typical bunch of passionate dubsteppers. Next time i saw him (post la roux remix) the crowd was pretty chocka with pretentious fashionistas. I know this shouldn't really bother me as there not talking to me but meh i dunno... Feel as if this kind of crowd dont really have alot of passion for the genre

this tune is signed to Mad Decent, so it doesn't seem that unusual that it would get exposure like that

yeah man when i saw vaski play live in the US there were a lot of annoying raver girls, and like a bunch of hipsters and bros and i just wished they'd gtfo.
like they were awful. they jumped up on stage and were dancing and like interrupting him while he was spinning. not to mention that it's super annoying when you want to get right up front but a huge portion of it is blocked off by glowstickers making a 15 ft. circle...

haha naw dude it was just annoying, there were all these people just pumped by the music and the aggression and what not and then...this little corner of happy-hardcore style raver girls that were very into how "good" they were at glowsticking.

yeah! fuck bringing people from different social circles together for the shared appreciation of music! dubstep belongs to me, my cargo pants and black hoodie!
also how dare they come and gyrate their hips and swing glowsticks at a rave, what is this world coming to?
on topic: I heard Rusko's Cali Anthem played here in Los Angeles on a top 40 hip hop station, pretty surreal. i like rusko's music and if it wasn't for Fabric 37 i probably would have never heard DMZ or Silkie or Benga or Ramadanman or L-wiz or ANY of the music I love today. more power to him

well naw man i'm not saying it's a bad thing that more people are getting into it,
i actually wear skinnies and vans haha so take that kaki pants!
i had no problem with the guys playing their african drums or the 40 year old man in tight black jeans, or even the gamer kids because they were just into the music but it just threw me off that some guy wearing nike sandals and a colorado state hoody jumped up on stage and demanded a handshake from vaski mid-set. i was mostly agreeing that there are just some people i'd like to not have to deal with at shows
i read either on this or a different thread that dubstep's getting huge among neo-hippy crowds and jam band people, and there were TONS of them there. i personally don't really mind when a type of music comes into the light a little more. hell, it gives me more people to talk about music with. i think a lot of people don't like music becoming mainstream (aside from negative effects that mainstream can have on music. see rap and pendulum) because they use their music to define themselves and get all pissy when it's not unique to them anymore. hell, i love these sounds and i love seeing people discover that they do too.
