brostep production massive.

ok y'all. I have zero problem with yr big sawtooth basses and yagga-yagga leads. It's overplayed to me, personally, but whatever--the kids like it.

but for fuck's sake, PLEASE spend some time programming your drums. i'm all for big drops and heavy vibes-- they definitely have a place in this scene. I reference vex'd 1st album as inarguable proof of this.

But folks, an hour long set by early-warm dj's of chainsaw massacre with nothing but kick on one, snare on 3, and hyper-quantized 16th note hihats is just lamer than lame. Really. dance music = drums, and the drums in the majority of these heavier-than-heavy tunes suck balls. PLEASE up your drum game-- not just for myself, not for the other DJ's, but for the dancefloor.

Ask yourself-- if you've got a gig with shirtless, sweaty folks going nuts, do you want it to be a guy fist pumping, or a girl sashaying?

exactly.

thanks.
Dave

Sorry bro but that is just more generalization. I think a lot of "Brostep" has a lot more going on than the old 1 and 3. At the same time some of it is that way and yet manage to pull it off nicely. There is a lot of garbage midrange out there just as any other style of music but the generalization is kinda shite imo.

oh yeah they do this one too.. boom..boom..ta.. baboom... boom ta ta ta.

haha, part of what attracts me to dubstep is the really cool beats some producers got goin on (horsepower productions). brostep absolutely fucks that beat up soooooo bad, it sounds bromosexual!

sorry felt like venting, no hate.

here here. every edm genre has its goods and its bads. i think it's unfair to say that all brostep suffers from weak drums, but i don't think that's what our fearless leader was implying. fact of the matter is, with dubstep soaring in popularity, the amount of shit collecting at the bottom is piling up quickly, and often drums are sacrificed for that insane bass/drop/whatever. dubstep is, technically, a breakbeat genre, but some of that stuff is completely devoid of the funk.

THIS dubstep is loosing the sick percussions (not really but bro step doesnt have it)

That isn't really a fair comparison. The best of one sound compared to the worst of another get me. I don't mean to hate on Dayn either but I absolutely cannot listen to that kids productions.

Who told you you have to do one or the other? The music gets stale because of this. Producers try to perfect one specific sound rather than opening up their creativity and just trying whatever floats your boat atmo.

I have specialized myself for years but now for once I really want to attempt different style everytime to keep it fresh. It is really hard to focus on a certain sound and have each tune unique and that is pretty important to me. It's up to you but I think if you are feelin the Autoniomic type shit then you should go for it. I am feelin it too.

That's the shit right there. Also, there is nothing wrong with brostep imo, but it's best sprinkled in a set rather than back to back to back to back to... you get the point.
