Question about Vinyl > Wav

I just got an Audio 8 DJ and I want to record viny;. It has a phono input and you can put the tt's straight in with the ground wire as well and turn up +12db for input gain. I'm recording into Soundforge. Thing is waveform is still pretty low after recording even after turning everything up full especially when compared to digital files. Should I normalise these wavs u reckon ...or should I really be running things through an amp (I have an old Denon somewhere but never bothered with amp coz I got the powered krk's) or would deck > mixer>soundcard>soundforge be a better chain. I know vinyl/digital's never going to sound the same but I just want to getthe best quality I can get. The records are in m- condition mainly . I don't want to rip all my wax then find a better way of doing it

Better to get a quiet recording (assuming minimal wire/soundcard/mixer noise) and then normalize - normalization is a multiplication function so you shouldn't lose any noticeable amount of quality.
I was recording some of my vinyls over easter and I found the opposite to you that I had to be well careful about the input volume to avoid digital distortion.

Thanks guys. I'm now going decks>mixer>soundcard>laptop which definitely raises the signal but I also get horrible noise with it. The grounds are connected to the mixer, all my cables are hi-quality, vinyls are clean, I got new needles specially for ripping so I don't understand this. Wtf is going on....shit I seem to get so far with doing anything digital and then the tech pisses me off and I end up just analog again!! And I really really want to integrate a whole vinyl/ableton setup
