im looking to start recording all my own samples using various percussive elements ive obtained, and also various vocal bits (grunts, yells, etc.) however, i am a bit torn on how i should go about doing this. ive been looking into a tascam dr07 for some time, as ive heard they are very good and i can take it out and about which is a definite advantage. yet, im wondering if the sound quality for a usb mic would be better. either way, im looking to spend no more than $150USD. any sound heads have an opinion?

i'm literally sitting here doing hihat overdubs on a tune. switching between an at4050 and a $5 mic with attached cable that i bought on canal st. both have their merits.

can never go wrong w/ an sm57.

I like to record a lot of my own percussion. I usually just put up an SM57 and I'm good.
