Working with REAKTOR

ok... so I just finished reading the manual...
I've got a feeling that I'm going to have a lot of fun in the next couple of... uhm... lifetimes...
This is nice and all, but considering the infinite possibilities... I just don't know where to start! Right now I'm basically just recreating stuff that I can already do in albino or massive or whatnot...
anyone here use it and have some creative, cleaver fuck arounds to create some cool synths/pads/basses/effects?

I use Reaktor but I do not create my own ensembles
I even get lost on the N.I. website looking for new .ens
I guess my point is... there are a lot of good synths and patches out there for it
I wouldn't worry too much about creating new ones

thats basically the one reason why I got reaktor... building my own patches and modular synths... it's a trip

I have built my own synth with Reaktor. It's called the Revolutioner #9. It was a good way to start to try to learn the program. I followed some tutorials and reversed engineered and extrapolated from a couple of other synths. It's just a basic two oscillator, 2 envelope analog synth. Nothing mind blowing but it's mine and I've gotten some good sounds out of it. Now I just download other people's ensembles and mess around with them. I always knew getting into this that I am a musician and not a programmer. It's a fun program though and some people have made some amazing stuff for it.

start by building a simple drum machine or a simple subtractive synth.

I often find that building effects is initially more rewarding than building synths with this sort of modular environment. It's generally quicker and easier, and you're more likely to end up with something off the wall but usful by combining existing building blocks in unusual ways than you would be if you were making a synth.

yes, and every bit you make, save it as a macro, nice for later use.

nick bits out of other ensembles and mix & match

Reaktor is frigging awesome! But I'm definatly in the producers camp and not a full on programmer. Having said that though it's cool how reaktor enables you to work on a variety of levels. I have messed around with the drone/noise machines, lumped a midi pitch controller onto it and played it like a synth etc. There are some out there creations floating around on the NI site, keeps me inspired to say the least.

Thirded.
BUT...As said before, messing with other people's .ens or just downloading some .ens is awesome..Some fucking good stuff in there

I've been really looking into it, always thought making my own synth would be fun, however time consuming it may be =D I just dont like synthedit because I can't seem to get my usb keyboard to work for live feedback in it no matter how many tutorials or methods i try

I think it would be a long while of programming synths and fx before you really got to make something new AND usable. It might be worth it. I own reaktor, never use it. I should on occasion. It's got that NI sound. Don't flame.

I'm yet to get into designing/creating my own ensembles, and, due to lack of time doubt I ever will but I'm more than happy with Reaktor as it is, never mind the humongous user library! And as for the recent stuff by the guys at Twisted Tools

Heard some demos, pretty legit. Don't know exactly what they do, but they sounded good.

Reaktor's just a programming language man. You could make every single Waves plugin in Reaktor if you knew the algorithm behind it.

I'm not stepping into this one again! All that prepacked reaktor stuff has a sound to it,
to me. Just like Massive and Kontakt. I don't Know if I could point it out on an oscilloscope or a freq analyzer,
but it's got a sound. I've got no agenda for or against ni, just something that I have observed.

Hehe, wasn't flaming, just pointing out. I guess a lot of the commercially released Reaktor synths/fx are actually put out by Native after all, and many of the building blocks are reused in other NI products.
