awesome, shadetek is a gangester. its funny cuz i use this philosophy but the way i work i only allow ideas, sounds, melodys that are "good". i might write something then gut the whole track and redo parts that arent working but i have finished every track i ever started. just a little diff take on the same idea.

i was doing something slightly similar for a while that this reminds me i need to start doing again.

(in ableton) work on one track in session view and make a shitload of variations and hone the drum/synth(if synth, use a common key that you return to) sounds to something usable and somewhat inspiring.

drag the track column into the browser window and save it

now the next sketch that is going good or reminds you of that session, drag that .als back in to the project

9/10 times its that extra bit you were looking for but couldn't make on the spot. it also adds a contrast-y element to add something that you made fit but hasn't grown from the same process

Also I did a 2 part video tutorial for dubspot about how to make dirty wobble bass in the ES2 synth in Logic. Even if you're not into wobble you should check it because it teaches you how to use the modulation matrix in the ES2 which you can use to get all kinds of crazy synth sounds and goes into some cool synth stuff that you can apply to whatever synth you use.

i think most people here, including me, are super into the productivity articles. for me these help music flow out which is what makes the whole thing fun. if you have any other examples of how you keep everything moving and flowing, id be interested in reading more.
