noise gates/channel splitting/stems questions

I've been usin this noisegate called "floorfish" or something to try get some background noise out of this sample i've got, but it doesn't seem to work unless i crank it real high and then it sounds really jagged and starts cutting out the sound i want, i've tried playin round with it but it just doesn't sound good at all..
Is there an easy/easier way or a plug-in that would get rid of background noise? - I searched and checked out this noise elimination thread but all posts just killed the OP over asking.

I also tried using "MSED" or something, which didn't really work, just converted it to stereo [I was told by someone on Soundcloud that you could do it easily this way but didn't sound good at all].

Are noisegates even the right way about doin this? Someone I know mentioned something like "channel splitting" - I may have the word wrong - where the music is most likely panned with the vocal track in the middle so you can just get the "centre track".

eqing is best bet
and it's gonna take patience
from initial post sounded like you were trying to do diy acapellas

i did try to do a DIY acapella before, ended up usin - what sounded like - someone elses in the end but even that didnt sound great so i cut it from my track!

anyway, like i said i EQ'd it already and put some reverb on it but it overpowers the mix with the background noise (perhaps because the music is out of key),
i've tried pretty much everything thats been mentioned on the forums, the talking in the sample is maybe just a little louder than the music, if that helps.
i was thinking of MAYBE getting this key signature finder plug-in and pitch shiftin the sample down to fit in key

you can only remove so much
maybe you should try overlaying some shit to mask those noises ;)
like covering a tattoo, you can remove so much, but at some point if you want it gone you need to cover it with more

its a good idea, definetly gonna have a stab at it,
gonna check out this "mixed in key" thing and see if i could just get it in tune so it will sound at least a little better

You could try using one of those programs that lets you draw/erase parts of the spectrum to pinpoint the sounds and cut them out. (similar to metasynth or whatevs)
iZotope Rx is supposed to be really good with cleaning up audio, you might find some use in that too.

ive had a play with it but havent been able to get rid of the noise, maybe im usin it wrong...
i also wanted to just mute certain parts of it rather than when i press delete it shuffles it all
