i was working on some basses... some fucking killer basses, and my right monitor got so hot from all the cone movement that it started distorting. I was really worried that i might have blown out the monitor, but i turned it off and let it cool, and it works fine, even at the high volumes i was playing the bass at.
but fuck... bass almost claimed another victim.

Thank fuck I've got built in protection in my monitors - They shut off if they don't like what you're putting through 'em...

maaaan, your lucky... turns out the monitor distorts at higher volumes with bass now... im gonna have to take 'er in... this totally sucks, but it helped me realize that i need a better job. Im gonna apply to IATSE (international alliance of theater and stage engineers) today.
they pay damn well, and compared to what we do when we produce tracks... their work is dead easy.
so... im mourning and im stoked at the same time.

The coil in the element probably got overheated and damaged.
For future reference, what monitors are those?
Or did you
do this?

no offense taken, and i understand what your saying.
i WAS experimenting with different types of bass, and honestly, i think that any of their tracks would have done the same thing to my monitor at that volume. the mistake i made was pushing too much sound through them to feel the bass, when i dont have a sub to begin with.
so my next question is, what would you do to wobbly sub bass to make it safe for 6" monitors at high volumes?
not trying to be a dick, im seriously interested
