Guess it's true across the senses.

I have never had a sense of smell, well no more than fleeting moments anyway, but no great loss compared to the loss of music. That would be rough.

Reminds me of a discussion I had the other day re the percussionist Evelyn Glennie who if I remember rightly was profoundly deaf and responded to the impact of the sounds on her body, and was a classy percussionist in spite of.

Amusia...a weird but fascinating condition, by the sounds of it. On a related note, there's an interesting article on the BBC website about dances held for the deaf or hard of hearing:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3621529.stm

'Thumping bass. Throbbing beats. Music so loud it can be physically felt'.

Sounds familiar.

Thats hard to believe. Not comprehending music seems equivalent to not being able to understand language or express emotion or something.

Well, its just a pitch thing. At least they can still feel rhythm.

Far more common is people who are amusical in the sense of just not caring for music. Just like some people are asexual.
