Hey all...im basically on this trip to try and make all my drum hits using synthesis (ive also seen other methods with sampler envelopes). I watched a basic tutorial...http://vimeo.com/11588332. Any help to further my knowledge wud be greatly appreciated. From tinkering with it the past few days im kinda getting the feeling alot of the power of creating good hits lies in the pitch envelope?? hit me up wit any knowledge you ve got...cheers.

take some sounds

put them into some effects

then take them new sounds

and put them in a drum sampler and adjust the ASDR envelopes or effect them further untill they are usable/trashable

as for "standard" sounds, try to use good starting material. or try to highlight the parts of the sounds you made above that dont sound too crazy, and try to tame them into the drumset

yea old drum synths are a good place to start
honestly to break down any sound get an oscilloscope or a software version and go from there
