Trojan Horses (and other horrible shit)

Without getting too technical, does anyone here have any idea how trojan horses work on computers?

The reason I ask is because about a year ago I got a copy of fruity loops 9 (illegally, to be fair) and only now has it been show to contain a trojan in the .exe file.

It was scanned by Windows Defender as having 'Trojan:Win32/Tikuffed.CV'.

So what - do they just sit there waiting for something to activate them? I've been using this program for ages with no problems.

Can anyone spell this out for me in layman's terms?

Cheers

Basically everytime you type stuff in on your computer it's logged. Passwords, bank deets etc etc etc

I'm joking. Maybe.

Really, I don't know though.

I just realised my picture wasn't very helpful.

It really depends on the Trojan.. Google is your best bet for working out what an individual one does. Some log information and pass it around the Internet, some just spread themselves by hijacking your Address Book and e-mailing themselves to your mates, some e-mail your Mum your Internet Explorer history*

A quick Google of that one give this:

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/For ... b6328892b9

Which might suggest you don't have much of a problem at all... apart from a bit of a shit virus detector!

Get a proper AV such as Eset and you'll (should) be OK, loads of crap AVs throw up threats when there is nothing there and miss them when there is something. But um, yeah... trojans are bad, do many different things. From just annoying you to more sinister stuff.

Surely there's a website that reviews every Anti Virus software out there.

I think its wrong to pirate anti virus software. It's like stealing a lock for your door. lol.
