What is the lowest note you use for bass?

I have not really been using any notes under about G sharp recently, as I have found that the bass doesn't really sound right, and it sounds more powerful around A or higher. The thing is I have noticed in tunes by looking at spec analysers that there do seem to be lower notes in tunes, and was just wondering what all you think.
What is the lowest bass note you usually hit?

am I missing something? ...something funny, maybe?
If the guy is looking for a straight answer - I'm pretty sure there are some frequencies your bass shouldn't go below - as many systems won't pick up. Maybe someone could convert this to notes or something? I don't know the frequencies, anyways...

Yeah in all seriousness here, eq your sub at about 60Hz, anything much below that will be felt rather than heard - human hearing is 20-20khz. As long as it sounds good it don't matter what the notes are!
Oh, and maybe get a sub

.

i've learned from experience that anything below F1 often doesn't come through on an average system...

By 'EQ' I hope you don't mean High Pass around there, that would be terrible advice.

It is bad advice for a lot of reasons for one it doesn't specify at all. He could mean cut or boost at 60hz and as far as high passing I would recommend not doing that at all. Any other sound fine but leave the sub go. The mastering engineer will cut off the very low end if it is necessary and if it is necessary it is probably going to slope off after 30 or even 25hz. Any higher and you probably won't realize what you have done until you hear the song on an huge rig.

No no! I'm not good at explaining stuff - meant BOOST at 60Hz!!
Should probably proof-read posts before hitting the submit button

I covered this.
So now lets look at this chart.
http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/jw/graphics/notes.GIF
So working from that table, we "should" be working between the notes E1 and A2 so nearly an octave and a half of notes thats plenty so the next step is to write your bassline.

It's not science people, it's music!! No need to start formulating your keys, write in a key that makes you happy!

For me I don't go lower than F, because my monitors aren't that strong below it. Might be fun to go below F sometime but for me if I can't hear what I'm doing properly then I'm not going to do it.

It is science if you want good loud mixdowns
but once the science becomes second nature it's music again
