Yeah very good point but also very long to do if you wanna send it to say 20 people. Spose thats where it comes down to limit your dubs only for certain DJs.

rite without this getting moved to another part of the forum-try going into your render setting and trying to encrypt the mp3 with a serial number it will stay with the mp3 for all its life apparently
some programs let you do it some dont

so it's a radio or stream rip that's being shared? or is it from a cd-r or 320?

you can do things like change the echo on a certain snare. make 10 versions all with different effects at certain spots in the tune. it could be as simple as using a different hi hat for one bar or whatever. there's loads of ways.

making ten versions is not that difficult assuming they're intended for cdr/mp3. of course the final mastered version would follow the watermarked, nearer to the release date.
this is not some new thing. it's been done quietly for a few years now. especially in the dnb scene. one day a dj is getting dubs, and then one day the same dj never get's dubs again, without any explanation. simple as..

I'm sorry to hear that about you.
But somehow I can't believe that you never downloaded something else via filesharing.
I do not blame you and I understand how you feel. But this forum's getting a bit paranoid or over-reacting regarding this subject.
Musicpiracy is part of the game I guess. Look how many tracks/albums are being downloaded by big commercial artists under a major contract.
The thought about watermarking files is leading straight to DRM -which is simply a shot in your own leg.

I understand what you're saying and just as there is Loefah's latest beat on slsk, I'm sure my forthcoming ones are as well. It is brklss says, 'part of the game'. And people on this forum over-react to it because dubstep is such a small scene (regardless of it's popularity being somewhat dependant on the net and no doubt file sharing in some cases - but that IS a whole other can of worms), I would certainly be pissed off someone I know had put my shit on slsk. But instead of whinging about it on here like they skanked several thousand pounds, get on the mission to stop it happening again. If you can't be bothered to put a digital or even more simple, vocally personalised watermark for the specific dj's to play well, you should probably expect this. There's a hundred and one ways to discretely watermark things. I used to do it for ages, until I realised noone was actually putting my shit on slsk (oh the shame!).
