Well, I had a set last night and brought serato with me. I was a bit late so didn't have time to fully set it up.

On my cdj's it works perfectly, but wasn't doing too well on the cdj1000s.

Basically, I put it all in the line set-up, with the control cd's in the players. But it seems completely innacurate, and skips around. It also never cues at the beginning of the track, but about half a second in, and the cue button doesn't work. In essence, it's just fucked.

Any idea the optimum set-up with this? I saw the mixer had H-line and P-line (I think). Is there any difference with these?

did you check your "set up" tab in serato. (the one with the ring looking things?)

also make sure that in the setup, it's set to line and not phono.

Sounds like something's fucked; check you're set to line and not phono as djwhupass pointed out. But this:

is the nature of the beast unfortunately. It's called needledrop latency and is exactly the same with vinyl - pick up the needle while it's playing and drop it in another place; playback will stop and restart instantly but it'll take some time to jump to the correct position. With Traktor it's something like 20-30 ms; I believe with Serato it's doubled because of the 1kHz timecode instead of 2k. Still, it shouldn't be half a second unless something's wrong or you've set a preposterously high soundcard latency.

Basically, the problem is that the laptop I'm using is oooold. I think there's a problem with the Core 2 Duo in it. The whole thing crackles and pops; I tried a bunch of USB cables, cancelled all processes, etc, and got it working enough to not be noticeable to a drunk crowd, but it's just too wonky for me.

To be quite honest, no matter how well you set it up, unless there's USB involved (which I've only found with the CDJ400's), Serato just works like shit with any CDJs. I'm just going to burn CD's. I was getting to a point where I was just queuing everything with the keyboard hotkeys, but there's just too much that can go wrong, with the cd's running out of length in REL mode, and so on. It all just seems like a program that's in ultra beta mode, and the bugs are just too much to take; I really hope they sort it out soon.

Does Traktor work any better in these situations?

Yeah, it works pretty well. In theory there's no reason it shouldn't work *better* than vinyl since there's so much less signal degradation. With Traktor you only really notice the difference in things that you can't do with vinyl - looping, cueing, hotcueing etc, ie anything involving position jumps. Still, the "issue" usually amount to a delay in finding the right position. Sounds like you've got actual major bugs or a hardware problem in your case. Your scratch input is definitely set to line and not phono?

Yup. There's H Line and L Line, but I don't think it makes a difference. I'm going to try rolling back to a previous version, and if all else fails, I'll go back to XP, from 7, but for the time being I'm just going to rock CD's
