Doctor P DE-preciation

Ok...Sweetshop's intro had about 4 seconds of charm before it got repetitive and boring, then the drop completely butchered a decent intro.
Now his sound has digressed to the same thing in all of his songs. I just listened to his remix of Caspa's ''Marmite'' on Chemical. What a load of trash. Dubpolice/Subsoldiers used to release some truely decent music. What the hell was Caspa thinking when he signed these two remixes? Seriously?
Caspa...pick up your game, sir!
Ok I just needed to get that out of my system. End of hatin' rant.

Caspa is the top dog at a couple of the biggest labels going (sales wise at least). He is there to make money. Doctor P remixes will make you money. Yes there should still be some credability to the music, but he has other artists for that (Subscape, D1, The Others, Tes La Rok etc). Can you honestly tell me if you had the option to make some money off a track you didnt exactly enjoy then you'd turn it down?

I know this thread is about to go tits up, and to be honest I only checked it out of morbid curiosity - but there's one thing I just have to point out. I find it so strange that this
money making > all attitude people have is so ingrained that it's used as a "self evident" counter-example to any question of integrity, usually seasoned with a loaded appeal to the thoughts and feelings of the person they're aiming it at.
Is it really so wild and unthinkable to imagine that someone, maybe even a lot of people, care more about quality than money?

It is indeed but unfortunatly sometimes you do have to think about money though. You cant get by with just integrity forever. Fair play if you can tho. Record labels are unfortunatly a business, and almost all businesses are there to make money, no? Like I said though Dub Police and Sub Soldiers have a large roster of artists with very different styles.
Say you ran an independant sandwich shop, and you were known to have the best sandwiches far and wide, but you only produced 10 sandwiches a day at that quality. You'd be stupid poor. However if you were to slightly lower the quality of the output then you can make enough money to get by. Thats a really shite example, but im just trying to get my point across.

Btw im not arguing the fact that most people would take integrity over money. I'd love to be known to make the best quality music in the world, however that is never going to happen, so I would take as second to be making half decent music and some money along with it.

If it was really all about the money everyone would be making commercial Pete Tong style House. Or crappy indie music. Or mainstream Hip-Hop.

I completely agree with you. Money has to be made. However with the volume of tracks that must be getting passed to Caspa, I would have thought that a guy in his position of power reaching so many people, that he would be beyond the point of releasing tracks like this. He must have hundreds of tracks that have more creativity than this coming under his nose, and yet tracks like these see a release...its just so baffling to me.

How do you know that Caspa doesn't like the tune? I like the tune for what it is, It's made to make people go crazy in a club and it does that. Like most agressive wobble step, of course its not a tune that will last and will be old by a few months but still It does its job.

The Circus label doesnt actually have any producers that I would say are better than 'good'. The odd tune/remix here and there is ok but on the whole DMZ rapes them

Same answer given every single time.... if you don't like where dubstep is going, hit the studio and start steering the ship yourself, otherwise as a passenger you have the option to get off the boat at any time.

That is such a load of bollocks.
Not everyone makes music, not everyone is a producer. The argument that you shouldn't criticise others if you don't make your own music is completely hollow. Dubstep is a genre, good tunes are produced, bad tunes are produced. People are and should be free to comment and criticise wherever they see fit. Just because poorly produced, midrange tear-out happens to be easier to criticise than most other stuff doesn't mean you have to jump to the defence of it all time. Most people think it's shite, get used to it.

To be honest Doctor P's output is so divergent from what i would classify as dubstep, it may fulfill the so called boundaries that a dubstep tune is meant to fulfill that im still surprised its discussed on here, sweetshop lulls me into a sense of it being a good tune when im out and here it cause im not paying attention then you here it drop and its just noise.
The need to announce the name of every tune before it drops should probably give some indication as to the quality of the music, surely a tune should be good enough to not require this.
Brostepforum should be made real so people can go and discuss it over there instead of filling up the space of what used to be a good forum with shit about them and other such tunes.
I have no problem with their tunes being made or whatever and people liking them but dont bring them here taking away space from good music which may not necesarilly fulfil the parameters of 'dubstep' but is far closer to what i take to be dubstep such as all the non-140 stuff being put out hyperdub and deep medi to name two obvious examples

What goes on at DSF is the same as saying "I hate McDonalds because it is shit food. I wish McDonalds weren't around so KFC would be more popular, because KFC is a better type of fast food and deserves more attention than McDonalds"
See here you sound like a douchebag.... and because you enjoy KFC, you make KFC sound like food for douchebags.
what would likely be more effective would be
"You should try KFC, I find the double-stack amazing, and those little potato wedges are fucking awesome. They have macaroni too. What? McDonalds? I'm not that big of a fan of McDonalds. KFC is my shit"
And here you sound like you are excited about KFC and therefor KFC sounds exciting.
You guys underestimate how many people troll these forums searching to see what dubstep is all about. Pretentious douchebags talking shit about Doctor P, make Doctor P seem like the anti-pretentious douchebag. Catch my drift?

Sandwich shops, KFC, McDonalds... Too many food references in this thread
