i wanted to help... really i did
then i thought...
how hard is it to play a note at the same time as playing the sample
even if its a chord, it would be easy to figure out the root note.
but then do you make a tune around a sample...
or drop the sample into your tune.
it should be the latter.
and in that case it would be necessary to pitch shift it.
it just seems logical... ya know

or am i missing something?

i started making tunes and learning about production a week ago, bit too advanced for me lol

You seem like a really angry person...

it's best to use multi samples that tell you the note like:

"Chord_stab_C2_Maj" = chord stab and the note is C major

best, but not always possible. Specially if you are grabbing samples from trax.

but if you can't play by ear and tell the note.. (like the O.P.)

My ear is garbo. Like if I'm using just three notes out of a scale, yeah, bringing in a new note, it's likely to work with those three note's I'm playing, but maybe it is out of the scale, and I don't know it until I start working in a new line that really defines the scale...

Anyway, I've always done everything by ear, but am trying to be more formal wit it, and have found gtune helpful. Shit, especially with vocals. Anyways to each their own.

I use my ears, but when I have a hard time, I use a spectrum that analyzes which notes are being played.

You can also use a tuner, or match to the note of a piano, etc as well.

spectrum analyzers to see where the harmonics are hitting, then use a midi to Hertz chart.

As for the question at hand, use your ears, if you can't get it use a spectrum analyser like others have said
