So long story short, im coming to the end of my first degree but for these three years I've studied while staying at home as my uni of choice was literally down the road, I'll be 22 by the time my course ends and Im thinking of going straight back into studying again to experience the dorm/uni life etc.

Just wondering if anyones had experiences like this.

When I started there were 22 year olds starting at the same time. Not a problem but you shouldn't be doing a second degree just to get fucked, you'll be in a bit of debt by the end

Just finnished first year, i'm 23.

I won't be officially starting the university lifestyle at 22 and plan on going until I'm like 30. You will be fine bro

I was 22 when I started my degree - and I partied pretty hard as a fresher, but
towards the end of the first year, I began to find that the 18-20 yr old crowd a little
immature. Most of the friends I made (and still keep in contact with) were 3rd year/4th year students because they were
around my age and I felt I had more in common with them.

if you're planning on going back, just remember - you're only as old as the fresher you're feeling up.

one of my friends, who has jus finished second year, is 26, and he seems to enjoy it

One of my mates is 28 and he is in his first year studying law after working in a milk packing plant for 6 years.

Seems like a daft thing to do ...Clocking up shit loads debt just to experience dorm life?
If you were that bothered about it couldn't you of just jumped ship a year in to the course?
Like jazzamataz i didnt start my degree until i was 22...and yeah after a while 18-20 crowd do seem immature (because they are)..Theres a time and a place for everything if you spend to much time chasing the past (how you think things should of been) you will probably miss things you should be experiencing at this point in your life.
I'd love to get another degree at some point though.....

I've just finished my first year at aged 24. I haven't really got that involved with the uni lot, got some good mates locally and only socialise with a few people on my course.

Definitely looking to get more involved next year though, but only to meet more women!

Never too old to learn man, even you're specifically after paper proof of it. I met one of my now best mates at uni about 4 years ago, he only began university at age 39 after a life of travelling etc... Got in through doing open university courses then took it from there. Just graduated in neuroscience, and he's a big part of the psychedelic world, having met Albert Hoffman on two occasions amongst many other influencial characters. Also on my course at uni was a another guy in his 40s that had been sent there through his company to get specific qualifications, despite the fact he'd been in the industry for 30 years

TBH age seems irrelevant... You're just as young as the bird you're feeling up, so why not stay in uni surrounded by 18 year old hotties

I think they make us decide what to do with our lives far too young. "You're 17 yeah? Cool...what do you wanna be doing from the ages of 22/23 to 65? cool....here's a course that will qualify you and 40,000 other candidates, and £15,000 debt for your troubles. Enjoy."

I think the OP should definately do it. 1. So he can get trained in what he actually would like to do, and 2. To delay having to go into full time employment...trust me, it's a miserable existance.

What utterly crippled me when I was in full time employment was the fact that I was spending 40 hours a week doing a skill that couldn't be improved... Imagine doing 40 hours a week on any hobby, even something as trivial as learning to juggle, draw or make music. You learn. You get better. In the workplace, you don't, because employers generally expect 50 years of identical quality work... Seems ironic that the masses class 'work' only as when someone is underpaying you for your time and you're not developing a skill

That's the main thing that cripples me these days... The thought of investing time into putting my mind into a life of stasis. Sounds a bit dramatic when it's in text! Still. I'm on track with getting back into a 40 hour work week, just hopefully this time with something stimulating... Regardless, people around me will give me more respect for doing a job I hate for money than they will for doing the things I love for fuck all. Cruel!

I Am doing a degree now despite already having a BA. I work part time and study part time, I don't really have much money but it beats working like a bitch for someone else.

The thing I realised FAR too late about Uni was, my degree isn't actually going to help me one iota.
I have a BSc in Psychology and a £30k debt for nothing - because I would love to be a counsellor.

I've got to get on to a foundation degree - £1k, - plus my full diploma - another £2.5k, and probably a postgrad (another £3k)
at some point to get where I want to be - So I've finished Uni this year with nothing except a degree in
something that is loosely associated with what I want to do.

But, what to do? I was half way through my second year when I realised I was on the wrong course.
It's time to earn some money, and set my shit up for the next few years.

The people I knew who went back to live in dorms after their first course didn't really enjoy it after a while. Then again, they weren't party people either. If you're doing a whole new 3-year course then it'll probably be fine. If you're doing a post-grad degree then it could be less enjoyable.

Depends how young your feeling. You don't need to go uni to live the life.

I started my second BA aged 21 (I didn't finish my first)

Personally I decided not to live in halls which I'm happy I did. Instead I lived at home for a while then moved in with friends in Whitechapel. Socialising with 18-20 year olds is much better when it's on your own terms, I find. After spending my 18th year almost constantly pissing it up I really don't need to do it again, how embarrassing!
