it is good for some stuff. But no eedgit would roll it out across a whole company so i can see why BBC man no like....
Drivers are an issue, ive got sound/TV cards which have no drivers, some software just doesnt work without funky workarounds, and if you leave UAC (user account control) on then it asks you whether you want to do things every five seconds.
However the Media Centre is awesome and i find Vista a hell of a lot more responsive than XP, particularly on dual core laptops and desktops. It learns what programs you use the most and keeps em in memory so after a while your most used progs load up far quicker, if youve got 2 gigs memory or more it makes a serious difference.....
but for music, i wouldnt use it, and if you only have one PC i'd make sure you keep a working version of Windows XP.
If you;ve got a spare desktop/laptop to try it on then do....

I work for the largest provider of IT info in the world....What weve been telling people is that hold of on vista... Its actually garbage... The licencing process is very confusing, its unstable...There is a fucking killswitch on it ..so if you are running any pirated software or If they "suspect" anything- youre fucked. I think once vista become a bit more popular, Im completley switching to mac...

granted the whole WGA/Killswitch stuff is worrying, especially given the massive number of users reporting that their legit copies of XP are being falsely identified as pirate versions.... if that continues no company is going to adopt it. But in my experience, its still pretty good. Much better than XP was when it first came out.
I like it and for my purposes, using its Media Center on a laptop which is permanently connected to a projector.... its pretty darn good so far. No crashes, no blue screens, and it performs much better than XP.
Out of interest, who IS the largest supplier of IT info in the world?

I know they are hiring all the time...were growing like mad everyday. Im an admin here so I take care of the inside sales floor. The only locations that are recruiting right now is Toronto and London (ontario, canada)...NYC offices are opeing up later on this year... I know they hire internationally as a researcher. Where are you located again?

Sorry, not really that interested in the IT thing, but thought I'd see how thin we can get the writing in the middle with numerous quotes within quotes. I'll stop now. I like it though, it's quite geometrically pleasing
The last time I tried it there was a severe ticking off, so don't do it Ok
