Lot of dubstepheads in Essex, not enough nights.

Yeah I live in Croydon, but go Southend a bit. Seems to be quite a big base for dubstep, but not that many nights. From what I can tell you gotta have the right venue/brand name. I know you pm'd me bout the Sub Squad thing, and know that them and Kool Kids Klub seem to be doing really well, but apart from that people seem to be failing a bit.

My mate is helping to promote Diz-Ko which is starting up at Talk, but alot of people dont seem to like Talk. People need to stop worrying about the venue so much and just go for the music. They already have Joker, Nero, DC Breaks, Inspector Dubplate, Doctor P and Doorly lined up.

Ye talk is going in with the dubstep lately but we are trying to do it a bit different.
that's why I think we are doing well with the underground side of things.
Plus the royal hotel is a lot like plastic people just a small room big speakers n big vibes and cheap booze lol.
We are doing our best to give essex a dubstep night that that's not classed as commercial and its going well

Essex has always been branded with a bad name club/music wise.
Not enough places like Bar house (chelmsford) The Royal Hotel (southend)

Its hard with london just down the road but we can only try.

It's because it's quite like liquid.

The one time I went, the music was utterly dire.

But if the had a dubstep night I would defo go.

Mayhem would be a good club for dubstep too, they a little dubstep here and there.

man I tried for Tiiime trying to get night running

due to the lack of venues and lack of help it became very hard

I was thinking you may need to go to a club like liquid to get any sort of decent numbers in, if people would help with promotions and getting people aware id find the locations and arrange dates but its too hard for one man to warm people to coming to these nights

I would say that Sub Squad @ The Royal Hotel - Southend is one of the best nights ive been to/ played at outside of London.

Big boy system, Non commercialised club, and heads that are there for the music ( rather than to just get battered at a late liscense venue)

Plus, you will find it hard to get consistant line ups like this at a monthly Essex event.

If you havent been before and your in the area its well worth a visit!!

And With the next one being Sub Squad Vs Scruffy Hoodlum - 6th August - with a killer lineup including Macabre Unit & Fused Forces, what better time to come down!!

Big up all that are involved and once again Big up all Essex Dubsteppers!!

BIG O - The Collective

You need to Get down there mate!!

With the Dubateers soundsystem in the "Dub Bunker" downstairs, theres some serious bass weight!!

And as S-Dot said, with the lack of lights and the low ceilings It kinda reminds me of Plastic People!!

Sub Squad is the only thing in Southend that's anything remotely like a 'proper' dubstep night. Small venue, dark room, decent system etc. I'll be reaching on the 6th.

A new night has been setup in Sunrooms by the FMR DnB lot called 'Paso Dub' which starts next Friday. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a tear-out/jump up fest though considering Bar9 is headlining and apparently they've been trying to book Borgore and that. That said, there's a couple of quality DJ's from Southend on the bill. I do love Sunnies though, generally has a well positive vibe and The Kool Kids Klub is an awesome house night.

Talk is a proper commercial club, it's usual crowd consists the sort of people I don't like to socialise with on a night out, aggy drunk posers etc. The music is usually really fucking awful aswell. Fair play if they've booked Joker (I've also heard rumours of Zinc, Skream and others) but it will never have an authentic feel due to the club itself and the crowd it draws. Wouldn't choose to go there.

I've lived in Southend my whole life, and it mainly caters for mainstream, commercial clubbing. There are plenty of independent and alternative clubs/nights though so there is something for everyone, however, I do find myself venturing to the capital most weekends. Unfortunately I don't think it will ever be able to compete with the likes of DMZ etc. for dubstep.

Ye iv seen this sun rooms event looks good. I also agree with the dmz comment but tbh what night can compete there's just to much history.
Does any one remember the wobble nights few yeas back that was sick man but southend just weren't ready for dubstep.
But between us all I'm sure we can move essex up the map for decent dubstep nights
