I'm going to be going up to Leeds Met for uni in september to do a music production course

I wanted to find out what sort of dubstep scene there is up there, would love to get involved with putting some nights on/playing at some already established nights.

Anyone with any info, or if you already live in leeds and can recommend some good nights out would be great

cheers
:e:

It seemed to have a pretty decent night life when i went up there, couldn't really see much in the way of dubstep going on though?

next exodus vs dmz @ west indian centre is october 1st then monthly after that

To be honest id say leeds has one of the biggest dubstep scenes in the country outside london, dmz/exodus and subdub are some of the biggest nights in the country with probably the biggest soundsystem and the line ups at exodus have to be some of the best in the country, metropolis generally has at least one or two big names, vagabondz again generally has some big dubstep names, as well as all the other smaller nights bigger than barry, tropical is doing some big things on the funky/dubstep side of things and has just started. the clubs to look at are wire, hifi, mint and the union really.
You wont see much of the jumpier side or i tended to ignore it i cant remember which.
Also theres a thriving houseparty scene.
Also asking you at uni there to jack sparrow?
Youll soon get to know...

I don't actually go to uni in leeds but iv popped over to exodus/dmz + vagabondz and enjoyed it, usually have good lineups and all that. leeds has a lot more going for it (dubstep wise) than my actual hometown...... :u:
plus u can always travel to nearby places (such as manchester) to catch certain DJs from time 2 time (not meaning to derail the thread, just saying)

My best mate is up in Leeds. He hated dubstep before going to uni, now he's the one showing me track.

Metropolis and Wax On are pretty big names at the Union. Also SubDub is ment to be pretty sick too. Bigger than Barry usually has a 3/4/5 line up, always with a big Dub dj thrown in there.

You serious?? Id say behind london town and bristol its the 3rd biggest scene in the country

Subdub
Exodus
Ruffage (rip)
Room 237
Central Beatz
Winstons Garden
Vagabonds
Tropical
Bigger than barry
Wax on
Metropolis
Unity day
Etc

Spice up your life while your up here.

Tropical!!! We've got some big things coming for next year, keeping things fresh.

but yeah regardless of that, there's more dubstep than you can shake a stick at round leeds way, not sure if anyones mentioned LSS yet aswell, always a banger.

exodus/subdub also run the outlook festival so if your going be sure to get latest info from tribe records

'nation of shopkeepers' sometimes put big dj's on for free too

also chapel town carnival

and dancehall science on a friday which is pretty heavy!

in york there is 'base' which is pretty heavy and a short train ride but the vibes are wicked

arrrgh the list is quite long but yeah you ill have a balll!

Tropical is pretty good as well, very good mix of stuff going on: http://www.facebook.com/posted.php?id=3 ... 2863700044

Central Beatz also has dubstep quite a bit plus it's free: http://www.centralbeatz.com/centralbeat ... vents.html

Oh yeah, Dirty Business is really good too: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wal ... 0523222370

If you make any records you might be able to get them released through Ranking Records which is a top notch label: http://www.rankingrecords.com/Home.html

Plus all the others mentioned, oh yeah and Room 237 does really really interesting EDM inc. dubstep: http://www.rm237.co.uk/

hahaha, mate you are actually in for the biggest surprise!
I think Leeds has easily the best scene in the country. Just go and look at the Exodus lineups for last year. I mean seriously, they actually take the piss and would never happen anywhere other than DMZ london and Croydub.

+ you should see the lineup we have for the first Vagabondz this year ;)

Living in the North East, Leeds is about the only place close enough that has some big Dubstep stuff going on...Newcastle is major suckage. You'll have a class time.
